@stroughtonsmith great post. I love the idea of normalizing in-app help again

@stroughtonsmith virtualization as a solution to the MacOS issue is brilliant and I'm surprised Apple hasn't done it already.

@stroughtonsmith I’d add external display handling. The current state of this is just miserable compared to macOS: only a handful of monitors are supported, no resolution changing, dpi is ridiculous on most displays, colors can be very off, AirPlay mirroring supports only mirroring, etc.

@stroughtonsmith @jsnell agreed with all of that.

But… why not just demand we be allowed to install what we want?

The iPad should not be a walled garden. Apple should no longer dictate the constraints on these devices.

@lkanies @jsnell that's unactionable, though — what you want can't exist without the APIs underneath. No amount of sideloading is gonna get you a working virtual machine without hardware virtualization or JIT, and so on

@stroughtonsmith Multi-User support baked into #ipados is severely missing too - e.g. almost all streaming providers have their own account switching UX - ON EVERY APP START.

@stroughtonsmith Loved the write up, and agree 100%, but it’s pretty depressing to know that some of these things have been a problem for over a decade. It doesn’t give me much hope for the future.

@stroughtonsmith very compelling argument, thanks for writing it up

@stroughtonsmith Great piece. Thanks for writing that up. Agree with much of this. One way or the other it is clear that a stagnant iPad OS is hurting the product.
