according to a machine translation of the statement.

I love it. Couldn’t find someone that speaks Russian so threw it in Google Translate.

dlok,

I can’t seem to see this in the article but I assume it was unmanned or they would have made a bigger deal about the loss of life?

Yes it doesn’t mention it in the article. Most of the previous articles concerning this flight (before the maneuver malfunction), did state that it was an unmanned mission. In this article it mentions that the lander was a tech demonstration (but not specifically that it was unmanned).

Fingers crossed for the Chandrayaan - 3 (spelling?). I think India is going to succeed!

Clearly the work of Soundwave

btaf45,

This is a tradition with Russia. Lots of their spacecraft have crashed on Mars also.

Maybe it started a Special Moon-Drilling Operation.

India's Chandrayaan-3 is still on track for an Aug 23 landing.

zhunk,

There shouldn’t have been a race or competition between the two at all, but it’ll be an even better look for ISRO if they can pull this off now.
