Four months ago, after weeks of intense negotiation between my staff and Democrats and Republicans, we came to a clear — clear bipartisan deal that was the strongest border security agreement in decades. But then Republicans in Congress — not all, but — walked away from it. Why? Because Donald Trump told them to. He told...
He is going to the right though, and a clear issue here is that many independents are actually on the left of. democrats. We’re not a cohesive group or a “party”.
And he is fucking over the border. We know what we need to solve it- increased funding for more clerks/judges/legal aid
But that’s not funding for their salary raises/expenses, or the corporate/billionaire mega donors subsidies and tax breaks. So fuck even trying that.
It’ll put the DNC in competition for the conservative votes, while leaving progressives free to form a legitimate party that’s actually progressive.
For the short term, it means the republicans are just going to further into fascism while the dnc progresses to fascist lite (exactly where the repugnants used to be.)
The only hope is if one or the other parties fails and/or progressives to finally figure out that “lesser of two evils” is exactly how we got here in the first place
“Today, the Court became aware of a comment that was posted on the Unified Court System’s public Facebook page and which I now bring to your attention,” Judge Juan Merchan wrote in a letter dated Friday.
“My cousin is a juror and said Trump is getting convicted,” the post stated, according to Merchan’s letter. “Thank you folks for all your hard work!!!”
Merchan said that the comment, which was attributed to a user identified as Michael Anderson, was “now labeled as one week old,” and was posted in response to a routine notice from the court posted on May 29 about oral arguments unrelated to proceedings in Trump’s case.
for anyone wondering what the comment was. elsewhere, I’ve read that the account is a common troll of the NY court system, so, probably not even an accurate statement- quite probably a nothing-hamberder.
”This helps take away votes from Joe Biden,” the activist told one person at the rally, according to a video posted to X (formerly Twitter) by a Washington Post reporter. “We’re helping the Trump team who’s trying to get him on there,” added a woman by his side.
Good question. I think a large part of the problem is there’s not a lot of progressive candidates getting out of the state level. Without party endorsements, it’s hard to get to any kind of national recognition sufficient to be a candidate.
and lets be honest, the DNC has actively been squashing any attempt at developing candidates who aren’t kowtowing to the status quo. even just being not-a-boomer is enough to make it hard.
Several of the people I’ve personally liked and thought were progressives turned out to be assholes.
I like Bernie. Warren. I can name a few others, but really don’t know enough about them to say if I like them or not. and that’s a large part of the problem. Even if we ignore the progressive label… outside of a small handful of people, nobody really has the name recognition. and at this point I assume that’s intentional to keep candidates like Biden and Hilary… relevant.
You’ll note I said ‘like’ in favor of ‘vote’… Obviously we need to be voting to defeat trump, and I doubt any credible progressive is going to be not recognizing that.
but can I ask who, if that wasn’t an issue, would you like? Or maybe better way of saying it. If we had ranked choice or similar voting system… who’d be your first pick?
If we replace a scotus judge every 2 years, they would individually have 18 year terms.
If we assume they’re experienced enough to actually be on the SC, they’ll be pretty close to retirement age anyhow. (If they’re 40, and that’s young, they’ll be 58 when they’re done.)
This doesn’t really change the slow nature of the court. What it does, is to remove unpredictable nature of appointments. Right now, we have a hyper conservative judge because McConnel played games and certain judges died at very inconvenient times. A consequence there is a SCOTUS that doesn’t reflect America at large.
(what flavor would you like? Universal voting rights; and removing the ability of asshats to gerrymander shit? universal health care? No more funding for Israel for as long as they remain an aparthied state? broad anti-corruption measures…? Congressional term limits? Locking up Trump?)

Not exactly a nice guy, what with all the warmongering and forced conversion to Christianity. (Though it should be noted several social reforms including education helped spark the carolingan renaissance)
At the end of the day, we’re just talking about some pigments and solvents smeared across some cloth.
I agree some of it can be art, but it’s still just trash. And don’t even get me started on the lumps of mud!
Actually, if we want to get pedantic, I would suggest the kits are more in line with prints rather than original paintings, but just because you see it as trash, doesn’t mean it is.
