NGC5907, also known as the knife-edge galaxy or the splinter galaxy, is an essentially bulgeless Sc galaxy which we can see nearly edge on, thus revealing very prominent dust lanes. Its peculiarity is that only very few giant stars are detectable in NGC5907, most of the light apparently comes from (relatively low metallicity) dwarf stars. The fainter part of the galaxy westward of the dust lanes has the NGC number 5906.

NGC5371 (upper left), Hickson group 68 & PGC49480 (lower left) provide an appealing setting. Bright stars are often a nuisance, but the yellow & blue stars near Hickson68, and the yellow near NGC5371 add nicely to the ensemble. https://www.astrobin.com/xjgx3j 🔭📷

Probably the astrobinians are already oversaturated with images from the solar eclipse of 2024-4-8 - but nevertheless, here is my take of this event. https://astrobin.com/a22yqr/ 🔭📷

The Perseus Galaxy Cluster Abell 426 hosts 500 - 1000 galaxies of various mass and morphology. At the center is the massive cD galaxy NGC1275, which features quite a bit of structure, working out these features was quite enjoyable! 🔭📷

NGC3642 is spiral galaxy in the constellation Ursa Major. It features an active galactic nuclei.

While it is the brightest object in the NGC3642 group, it actually is a difficult object to image: the nucleus is fairly bright, but the disk is quite extended, making it quite hard to work it out against the sky background in light-polluted suburbia. On the other hand side, when successful, one turns out with a decent sized galaxy image. 🔭📷https://www.astrobin.com/ha03rk/

NGC2782 a.k.a Arp215 is a beautiful example of the left over of a merging between two larger galaxies, full of tidal features, shells and so on. 🔭📷https://www.astrobin.com/vi4pi3

probably my last astro-image for 2023: a wide field shot of the Milky Way taken at Paranal (on the platform, right next to UT1). Traveling light, I only had a tripod, a DSLR with a 15mm lens, so the image is a stack of 78 exp. at 16s each. #🔭📷

An unspectacular image at first sight, but if you zoom around this image taken from a balcony in suburbia with a 72mm telescope shows almost 1000 galaxies in the region around Abell 2634 and Abell 2666 https://astrobin.com/o4m6ne 🔭📷

NGC7013 is an interesting & difficult object owing to a fairly strong Galactic cirrus and a few bright stars nearby: working out the faint cirrus without blowing the halos of the bright stars.🔭, 🔭📷 https://www.astrobin.com/199am0

The Pleiades M45 is a well known and quite fascinating "classic". Most fascinating is the very complex multi-scale structures caused by the interaction of the winds of the young stars with the dust environment where the Pleiades are currently located in. https://www.astrobin.com/j6dq8f

Another pic from my Paranal trip. I tried to get both MCs on one image by using the Samyang 50mm lens. The framing is challenging as the clouds are well in the outer regions of a chip where limitations of a photo lens clearly shows. astrobin.com/nknlpb/

While at Paranal, I of course pointed my camera not only at the telescopes, but also at the breath-taking night skies. Well I had to travel light, so no tracker or the like, but the LMC deserves extra effort, like stacking 339 3s images https://www.astrobin.com/full/cvqz88

M74 (aka NGC 628 or Phantom Galaxy) is difficult to observe from my backyard. It stands so low that it is located well between the trees, so I had to do a 8 neight campaign to accumulate 10h of observing time
