Despite teetering on the edge of it, few economists are forecasting an Australian recession anytime soon. But there's one obvious threat missing from the commentary: panic.
I read this article yesterday. Its such a nothing burger. All the writer ends up saying is the economies alright at the moment, and there doesn’t seem to be anything analysts are worried about in particular, ‘but, but, wait, thats what they always say before a black swan event!’
I’m not saying i’m particularly happy with the state of the economy, (my gripes are related to systemic things that Albo refuses to touch).
I saw Costa at a gardening show, the man was in his element. Gardening show royalty as well, everybody there knew him. People walking past offering chips, sayin hi, great stuff.
I’ve heard they use google docs as the communication method at other radio stations as well. Must be because its such a flexible medium.
I’d interpret your example as policies of the Government of the day, which represents the State, (like the managers represent the ABC), for a short tenure of the life of the respective entities.
My interpretation in line with what might come to mind when you talk about a Statesman. Good current examples would be John Kerry, Angela Merkel, or closer to home, Julie Bishop. These people have their political aims, but they also realise the continuation of the State as a living entity has a use in its dependency and therefore importance. Noticeably, they’re more internationally focused where its enormously important to take a wider breadth of view in regards your own State and its continuing existence.
Yeah, this is important. In such a small traditional media environment they probably feel like they don’t have much choice. They should look for talent in new and independent media if they don’t already, theres still plenty of people out there, they just have tiny loudspeakers.
I’m also unfortunately a bit suss about what the graffiti actually said,
referenced the deaths of Jewish people.
isn’t really enough evidence for me anymore, due to the term anti-semitism being launched at even the smallest amount of critiscim of the Government and State of Israel.
Sometimes i find people will also use it as a ‘discussion shut down’ when they don’t want to get pulled into a larger conversation about politics.
They have their reasons, like knowing they have little knowledge on the subject, or knowing the person they’re talking to and not wishing to engage with them too heavily (i may be guilty of employing this tactic at times).
While i find your derogatory comments about concussed goldfish disappointingly predictable, the point is by saying ‘both sides are the same’ or ‘both are as bad as the other’ isn’t really a political opinion.
Its a statement that withdraws from engaging in the differences in party positions on specific subject or policy positions by broad brushing them as the same.
For instance, a flounder might say to a butterfly fish, that, goldfish (concussed or not), are all the same, just to stop talking to the butterfly fish and get out of its reef! :)
Look random people on the street might find it a fun interlude to their day :) I know you weren’t completely though due to the personal example you referred to a couple comments back.
However, you didn’t specify a method, said brother-in-law enters into the political discussions. From an outsider’s perspective, (me), there was no indication.

I used these words in my first reply, not to deny your experience, but to add to it. The general nature of the word,
people,
in that part of your comment followed by an absolute statement spurred my entry. I think it’s important to highlight varied reasons people have for doing the same things.
You spoke in one part of the comment generally, the other part specifically. My reply attempted to accept your specific experience, while engaging in the general discussion indicated about ‘general people’ happening alongside it.
