Hey yall, I want to get into self-hosting. I want to start from hosting on a raspberry pi, and I am just wondering if yall have any recommendations (I've never hosted anything before, but have experience in linux and programming). Sorry if it's bit of a stupid question.
Voice channels similar to discord and Teamspeak, where you don't need to "call" the people you want to talk to, you just join the channel. Is this a feature in Matrix?...
I have an old OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro Qx2 4 Bay Hard drive RAID Enclosure (1st generation) but I can't get it to be recognized by a computer. Mostly trying with linux over usb....
maybe a rasberry pi with a 4 SATA ports addon could work, then you can use the pi as a network drive.
However, you'll need to figuresomething out for the power for the drives...
I have no idea how the inside are made, so you can try taking it apart to see for yourself! (don't forget to take picture, so you can reassemble it after ahah)
I found this picture, which could be exactly what you could want (I believe it is a Rock Pi SATA HAT ?), of course, now, time to find what hardware can do that for the cheapest!
So now that Lemmy and the community overall are getting a lot of attention, with /c/memes being one of the biggest communities across instances, I think we should be a bit more strict about certain things....
images need to be uploaded to Lemmy instead of linking to something like Imgur
Not a good idea, sites like Imgur allows lemmy to not store the data, which takes up a huge amount of space, accross all instances. It's better to have image on the instance, yes, but after a bit of work, the lemmy's devs can show external images inline, just like on reddit.
With more and more alternatives appearing to Lego which also increase in variety and even surpass at times Lego quality, why focus just on this company for a brick building community? I for example have been badly burned by Lego's handling of the Mindstorms brand and there are more compatibility broken product lines from Lego....
When a lepin community (or anything else regarding other bricks) join Lemmy, i'll be sure to join them, other bricks manufacturer are cheaper and has way more diversity!
I'm after a remote for JMP that is just a remote. No local playback or streaming, no fancy extras, just a remote with some directional buttons, keyboard input, that sort of thing. Somethign akin to what Kore is to Kodi....
How do you set up a server? Do you do any automation or do you just open up an SSH session and YOLO? Any containers? Is docker-compose enough for you or are you one of those unicorns who had no issues whatsoever with rootless Podman? Do you use any premade scripts or do you hand craft it all? What distro are you building on top...
Proxmox, then create LXC for everything (moslty debian and a bit of alpine), no automation, full yolo, if it break I have backup (problems are for future me eh)
Hi everyone, welcome, ect... It might go without saying but lemmy is open source! The platform is written in rust and typescript (which is a big pro for me). I'm sure we all have our little gripes with the platform, and those are fixed with collective teamwork :)...

Why specifically a Lego branded community?
