Cis-het married cat lady, retired web developer, pro-choice atheist and feminist. My train station is Lawnton, I shop at Warner, and my federal MP is a potato. #Australian

Diagnosed at 60 as #ActuallyAutistic. Still trying to work out what that means. Strong opinions, many interests, boring AF. I don't get out much because of physical limitations and fear of #COVID

I want to upgrade our TV from the existing 1080 x 720p, and I have 2 questions:

  1. Does anyone want a 1080 x 720p Sony Bravia TV (No stand, currently wall mounted)? Free to collect, can drop off if you have limited transport, and might pay for a stand if you need one and are cash poor :)

  2. Can anyone advise me what brand and model (50” max prolly, limited space) we should get? Not looking to spend $1000s. Choice seems to be between LG, Samsung, and Sony. All opinions gratefully received :)

As an aside, you really do not know how cat hair you have on your carpet until you shampoo it. Even after multiple vacuums with our best device at max power, I still left a trail of ‘wet mice’ everywhere and in the shampooer itself.

And we just have the two cats! Anyone who has more and has carpets as well, must have to shampoo every month if they don’t want to be hip-deep in hair :(

I have another question:

In the clear up, I uncovered literally hundreds of photos which we haven’t looked at since we bought this house 17 years ago, if not longer. Most of them are crap but my husband is a hoarder. Is it worth digitising them to placate his fear of losing stuff, or should I just bin them because no one will want these things when we die, and we clearly don’t want them now

Can people keep a sense of perspective about this tree that was chopped down?
It was not (a) historic or (b) anything to do with Robin Hood. It was on Hadrian’s Wall, and it’s famous for being used in “Robin Hood Prince of Thieves”. It’s a sycamore which is (a) not a native species to Britain and (b) wasn’t even that old.

ETA: @TalktoBeverley points out it was beloved by locals https://mas.to/@TalktoBeverley/111145478209658365

Vandalism is horrible, but it wasn’t like he carved his name on the Colosseum.

This is hands down my favourite version of my absolute favourite Xmas noncarol song, and so, you must all watch "All I want for Xmas" from Love, Actually, even if you hate the movie :)

Hello friends. I’ve been quiet for a few reasons, starting with the fact I seem to have a torn right rotator cuff (GP tomorrow for confirmation), which nicely complements my tensovitis and arthritis in my left wrist and hand. Doing anything is v.painful despite gulping paracetamol and icing the joint.

I can only easily type on my laptop , but SO, who I am still looking after, needs to use it since he can’t sit at his desktop. I only have access over brekkie

Last week was the nonstop medical appointments. This week is nonstop squabbling and scrabbling to sort out things before SO goes in for surprise surgery on Friday (skin cancer removal with graft) which means 3 nights in private hospital ($$$) followed by 2 weeks of bedrest with extremely restricted locomotion, 3 weeks of ‘bird baths’, and up to 6 weeks of healing. Since I’m struggling with wrist pain and arthritis, I’m just thrilled to have the household chores thrown on me, on top of nursing :(

The adoration of mechanical keyboards completely bewilders me. I was forced to learn to type in high school (woodwork was for boys only, you see), and loathed using a mechanical typewriter, and then an electric typewriter.

I fell in love with the first keyboards I didn't have to push keys down hard on, and have never wanted to go back. Also I can't stand the noise of clacking keyboards.

Am I just weird, or am I missing something? Typing is a chore, not for playing around.

Okay, I’m back. Sort of. I’m suffering from back pain from hell, so touching grass is almost impossible right now, but doomscrolling has lost a lot of its appeal even with just a few days off.

You’ll probably see fewer posts from me. I’ve decided reposts are probably not worth it since I figure most people have them turned off.

I really don’t know why I’m telling you all this since I’m not a train and you don’t need to know my schedule :)

I hope everyone, wherever you are, whomever you are with, and whatever you are doing, has a lovely, peaceful, safe, and happy day.

For those of you who find the holidays difficult or lonely, I offer you love, and my company if you want it. I’m around all day today and tomorrow, and online

I thank all of you for the fun, the thoughtfulness, and company that you have given me this year. Everyone on Mastodon has been very good for me ❤️

Since 9pm or so last night, when the rain started, we have had 165mm of rain. Had a disturbed night, some funny gurgling noises I couldn’t identify, and then a cat determined to wake me up at 5.30am. That’s when I discovered we had a partly flooded sunroom :(

Towels, fans, dealing with it. Rain probably going to hang around another couple of hours. Then as soon as it dries out, we’ll have to renew the sealant under the metal frames in that room - which we use a lot (our real living room).

Oh my dears, I have had such a tedious day.

10.40-eye test. Optometrist not happy with my vision, glasses will not fix. Referral to specialist 😬
11.50-attend dentist to have prep for crown, temporary cap fitted
12.20-actually see dentist. Things go wrong at all possible points
13.50-released from dentist clutches, pay lots of money as deposit for even more money. Escapes to go swimming
14.50-leaves pool
15.50 - Arrives home . 25 min trip takes 1 hour. Traffic insane. need 🥃

I used the contact form for GWM to ask a question about the Ora we’re considering, and got a call back from some dill at Village Motors Northlakes who said he was ringing because “a girl” wanted to know something. I nearly hung up on him. Instead I told him that I’m not a ‘girl’, asked the question, then hung up.

How to lose a customer in one easy step. If I’m old enough to buy a car, I’m not a ‘girl’, and I am almost certainly older than this idiot. But to him, women are all children.

Why are we paying so much for alcohol-free drinks that aren't taxed?

"Among the non-alcoholic spirits, 700ml of Lyre’s Dry London Spirit - “crafted to capture the essence of a classic gin” - is $51 at another outlet while the same size bottle of 37% alcohol Gordon’s London Dry Gin is $45. Gordon’s own non-alcoholic offering - Gordon’s 0.0 Alcohol Free - is listed at $38."

My Aussie friends - we have been advised to recharge our septic tanks with brewers yeast. Is this true, and where do I buy it? Woolies doesn’t sell it, and the Brew Shop sells nothing so ordinary as plain old brewers yeast.
