Last night, I saw a most remarkable movie: Nothing but a Man. It’s a 1964 microbudget indie that offers a whitewash-free look at the complexities of black life in the Deep South. It features, among others, Yaphet Kotto, Gloria Foster (Oracle from The Matrix), and jazz singer Abbey Lincoln. Its soundtrack was the first LP ever released by Motown. It is a wonder.

I just learned that Steven Moffat wrote tonight’s episode of Doctor Who and I’m delighted to no end. The RTD/Moffat collaboration yielded riches, Moffat has written some of the best episodes (Blink, A Christmas Carol), and chef’s kiss to the Matt Smith era. And now he’s writing for Ncuti Gatwa. So excited.

For my upper division classes, there is a research project due at the end of the term. 3 weeks before they have a literature review due so I can make sure the students are going generally in the right direction. For the literature review, they have to list their sources (some peer-reviewed) and describe how they will use said sources. I green light the sources. The new thing is not to use those sources I approved but some crap sources. 🤦‍♂️ What gives?! #academia #academicchatter
