Though TBH I'm pretty sure any modern biker in the US who is trying to appear bad ass or rebellious would have had the shit kicked out of them by post-ww2-era bikers on general principles anyway. Those "Greatest Generation" types were a bit.... intense at times.

US bikers who don't know why their grandfathers had nazi shit and how they earned those trophies are stealing valor and should get the shit kicked out of them by hordes of school children then made to watch as the class lines up to piss in their hog's gas tank.

While we don't know all the facts, civic infrastructure works maintenance and upgrades, maritime shipping maintenance as well as ownership and liability loopholes and legal shields to owners must all be examined and corrected to help prevent such occurrences going forward."

Welcome to multicellular life. As part of character creation you must select your preferred hole combinations. The selections you make will impact how you interact with others and the world. Unfortunately as a complex life form you are constrained in the number of holes you can have, so you will have to choose which ones pull double duty.

Assigning breathing and eating/drinking to one hole is popular. Vocalizing is an easy add-on there, if you so choose. Smelling is included for free if you select eating.

Sex and birthing young or expelling components for later assembly can be combined, this will impact your ability to select fertilize outside the body.

Waste extraction typically get their own holes, but advanced life forms have been known to upgrade and include additional sex aspect from at least one and possibly multiple holes that also handle intermittent waste. In many cases it's popular to place the sex holes and the waste holes together.

Other times the waste and food hole can be combined but that can affect later choices. Sometimes the breathing hole(s) can be traded for a bunch of littler holes all over the body, but that limits your size. Like the lizards say, tubes are for food, all else needs chambers.

Player Tip!: Interpreting complex atmospheric pressure disturbances, or hearing, typically requires it's own hole. Due to an early buff patch you are allotted two hearing holes without penalty.

Keep in mind these are only the primary holes, tertiary holes like glands and pre-plugged holes like eyes and hair will be assigned holes or tubes automatically.

Hard to overstate how enshittified and botshitted Google Maps has become. Went looking for my local locksmith on Gmaps. Maps shows 20+ fake locksmith referral scam outlets and doesn't even register the real locksmith, despite it being fully visible in Street View.

Instead, a red pin on the shop identifies it as a fake locksmith scammer. The real locksmith - which has been there SINCE 1942 (!!) and is a verified merchant - doesn't even show up.

Google Maps, showing the storefront for Golden State Lock as an empty building.

chairman_meh,

@pluralistic Yes, we are seeing a return of the days where we needed to have a varied network of associates and friends from which to get referrals and recommendations based on their experience and grounded in trust, earned and held dear. As I'm finding, for most of the rest of the world outside our little technosphere it's never been any different, and probably never should have been. The internet as it is now puts too much emphasis on self-promotion and captured attention, and there's a huge value miscalculation going on over it currently. Companies like this, popping up to grab attention and money away without providing anything of real value in return is just another altitude marker flashing past on our race to the bottom of this collapsing bubble. The other billion-and-a-half 'attention scams' being enabled by the internet are the same, and they've been able to disassemble, subvert, or make us distrust the tools of trust we had relied on before.

One good option, which does require a bit of personal rewiring on our parts, is a personal emphasis on personal networks of human contact and human interaction, which over time and practice can help us build bonds of trust with those around us in our community. Long before the web came along (at least for me in the western US), other forces were already hard at work trying to break our links to and trust in our local communities, and a car-centric suburban-sprawl cookie-cutter landscape of identical houses filled with people that drive 2+ miles to meet at a place you must pay to inhabit and hang out.

When I started to look into the cracks in my section of that society, I found flourishing cultures and groups who think and work completely differently, even in my own neighborhoods. Trying to learn more about leftism and anarcho-whatists groups ideals and thinking made me look for hints of these different approaches. Changing things like how often and where I bicycle (and for what purpose), where and how I shop, and needing to take a second, locally-centered job helped force me to learn more about these networks, and seeing them in action helping people accomplish things really makes me hopeful about a life without, perhaps in spite of, the web.

I learned secondhand that there's been a big spam surge in the fediverse. Thankfully, I'm amongst responsible and competent anarchists, so whatever may have made it's way in here appears to have been promptly dealt with.

Thanks, users and mods!

This is from someone who thinks capitalism is great:

“Resources aren't capital. The capitalist often does not even need them, in order to turn profit. He can simply invest his capital to buy means of production and labor, and sell the results at profit.”

I couldn’t ask for a more succinct summary of capital as a token that some people have, and others don’t, which the owners can swap for owning someone else’s labor and the value of the product of that labor.

Capital doesn’t represent resources! It’s not connected to anything useful! You can’t use it to make more stuff, only to control someone else! It’s just a token! It’s quantified, commodified power!

Straight from the horse’s mouth.

chairman_meh,

@HeavenlyPossum also a great explanation as to how utterly useless and pointless the capitalist is as anything more than just a temporary source of funds, the use of which immediately makes them a permanent extortionist parasite, almost impossible to expel without egregious cost and damage to the business venture. They are at best an albatross around the neck of anyone attempting to make a product and more often the source of any external troubles to a business, either through their petulant whining demands to their own host or the direct attack, undermining of, and theft from 'competitors' and customers.

Codifying, normalizing, and systematizing a faustian bargain makes it no less dangerous a deal, it just means the devil has minions "just doing their job" perpetuating the rapacious destruction of individual's needs and ability to fill them.

chairman_meh,

@mcspadden @HeavenlyPossum I keep tripping over that issue myself, but using tokens as a representative means of exchange was used long before it became "capitalism."

If you're asking "how can we use the companies money to motivate people to do things the company needs", then the beginning of the answer is realizing how much more free cash and options overall come available when you eliminate all the inefficiency of keeping people around who do nothing but sign checks and think that gives them a say in how the business is run.

@sonny if possible you can find good deals on the used markets like FB marketplace/craigslist/estate sales. Pennies on the dollar for an all-in-one if you have the space, occasional standalone scanners can be found as well. Trust is expensive though so take a laptop, usb, and extension cord to test. If necessary you can probably bribe a geek with beer/food to bring theirs and help evaluate it, still come out way ahead, and you get to see/learn nerd thrifting.

TF is with all the tradwife resurgence shit going on, is this about that fucking weak-ass knockoff rugby match that just went on? I keep seeing shit about people pinning all their hopes and dreams for the cumming of jesus on the result, is this just a coincidence? Because TBH I'd graft extra balls onto myself just so I could laugh them back off if 50% of these fucking weirdos' nights ended in strain and divorce because their side lost and their little homesteading fantasy fell apart somehow because of it.

I wish I lived in an area where cycling was so common that it could support an industry of well-made, inexpensive, middle-of-the-road bikes and infrastructure rather than this gaudy, flashy, overpriced, overly-accessorized, kitschy, spandex-clad hell of 'enthusiasts' all jerking each other off at a 150watt cadence to keep themselves from realizing they paid the cost of a car 10 years ago to get a 6.8 kilogram carbon fiber toy that just becomes a clothes rack before it hits 100 miles.

a disturbing percentage of modern news and information is now delivered to me in the form of a podcast or video essay. If a concept cannot be at least laid out in broad strokes within 20 minutes or so (with jokes!) then it is not worth knowing.

Saw the results of that huge UBI study and I'm happy for all the socialists. Still thinking there's got to be a better way to decouple basic needs from arbitrarily-assigned numbers or tokens besides a group externally correcting the numbers to keep the broken system going.

But in the meantime yeah sure printer go brrr and we all agree the increasingly-necessary presence and running of the printer is right and normal. Yep!

Stop saying "it's legal" as if that justifies anything.

I was going to say I fondly remember when the political parties of my country weren't calling for the genocide of innocents for the enrichment of a problematic minority I'm not a part of... but then I remember my country was born out of genocide and just kept going.

Can we hurry up and get to the reckoning yet?

    chairman_meh, to random

wait, anarchists aren't considered "left"? Huh? I never understand these definitions and cliques. Is this another 'third position' thing? What labels do I need to apply to someone to get them to start helping those being crushed by the system, be it red, blue, green, or whatever?

    chairman_meh, to random

Had to work with christians today. Thankfully at least these were the "express our faith through good acts" kind and not the "violently demand the extermination and subjugation of those you know and love" kind. Well, today they were, anyway.

    chairman_meh, to random

If your actions are in keeping with international law yet still result in the death of hundreds of innocents, the law is wrong and so are you.

If someone is putting up posters/flyers/drops for a cause and someone else who purports to support the same cause is giving them shit over it and telling them they're not helping, that critic doesn't actually support the cause.

Don't berate or put down anyone who is actually doing something to help get the message out into the world. You can do better? Prove it.

    chairman_meh, to KindActions

Shot in the dark here but anyone know of any kind of ileostomy support group or tips or something? Got someone I know getting torn up by a badly done one that keeps leaking under the barriers. Those things aren't cheap either. They're in a lot of pain and pretty desperate. Any tips/tricks or boosts are welcome
