I am really getting the hang of #Selfhosting stuff. Adding a new domain and website? Copy/paste dns settings. Add a simple server stub to my nginx.conf, run certbot --nginx -d domain.name and done. After it is running, add an index.html or setup a container and do some forwarding. Nice!
First charge of our new EV using Ohme Home Pro and @octopusenergy Agile. The total cost for adding about 50 miles of range was ยฃ0.00 โ the equivalent amount of diesel for our old car would cost about ยฃ6.
I've been reappointed as Director of Teaching and Learning for a second full three-year term. Time to see us over the biggest moment of change in our T&L lives at UoR...
PSA: If you a PostDoc or Early Career Researcher, please, please, please have a basic webpage with your affiliation and email address.
Iโve just spent the better part of an hour trying to find up to date information about a PostDoc who would make an excellent referee for a paper that has just landed on my desk.
Whilst refereeing might be considered a thankless task, it is an important part of developing an international profile.

Progeny 2.0 got his #GCSE results this morning.
Pretty good. Perhaps dropped a couple of grades because of the harsher marking this year, but still good enough to get him into his A-level college.
But he didn't get a barrage of 9s so he's disappointed.

We've read a number of older stories to the kids during story time and something I've started noticing is how often the heroes will straight up take time off from hero-ing to do things like sit at a lake to rest for 3 or 4 days or refuse to work for an evening and attend a concert or spend a month or two traveling with no notable adventuring along the way. Often this stuff is glossed over in a sentence or two, but I find it interesting. Even the great adventurers aren't always working.
@bigzaphod This is definitely how Iโd like to work in an ideal world but, as you say, modern society isnโt really geared up for this. Even in the academic world, where we are afforded a much greater degree of freedom than wider society, we still have students, admin, etc. and โ away from work โ the kids still need to go to school, clubs, etc.
@kevinhouston wow, Kevin โ thatโs very impressive. I also find creating exercises challenging, particularly given the increasing number of constraints.
Apologies for my very delayed response โ I have been somewhat absent from social media in recent months.
