I enjoy having a hat with a giant shade that is SPF 50, and I am considering getting some sleeves as well. Does any of you have recommendations on sleeves that cover the skin but are still cool to wear when running in the sun? Does this technology even exist?

Today, I did my best ever time on the 30k distance, but Strava recorded it as 29.99 km, so it doesn't count.

The next thing I want to explore is making DIY isotonic cocktails for my soft flasks; the goal is endurance running, so having some solid foods on me seems reasonable, but having my soft flasks filled with water containing the right amount of table sugar and rock salt (for the minerals and sodium), with some magnesium and calcium, and something for flavoring might be the cheapest and best option.

Do you have a recipe for a cocktail that works for you? What flavoring do you use?

gausby,
@gausby@mastodon.xyz avatar

@niavy I just tried 15 grams of sugar, one gram of salt, and water in a 500 ml flask for a half marathon. It was warmer here than usual, and the bottle was empty when I got back home. I feel like I could go on, but I might just have a good day.

My softflask had a flavor in it, because I had a commercial soft drink in it the last time I used it. It is the gift that keeps on giving.

Today I ran the 25km distance at the and was quite satisfied overall. Last yr I found it very challenging due to the heat at the time, but today it was great with 1300 runners of the same distance.

The 800m of elev gain were manageable, and at the next event in August I will try to break the 1800m

And I noticed that as a 52yo runner, I've already been classified as a senior ... that escalated quickly ...

Your personal best on the 5k, 10k, hm, etc. How much do you attribute to the carbon plates in your spaceship shaped running shoes, the perfect weather conditions, your awesome looking shades, and the route that started on a hill and sloped downwards for the majority of the route?

Startup idea: An AI transcription tool that posts what was said in a video meeting between two or more AI-generated AI Avatars to Slack.

gausby,
@gausby@mastodon.xyz avatar

@kimschulz You are right. Slack is not “AI,” which is one of the many reasons it is unusable.

Are you looking for a replacement for Redis?

How about just using AI?

I am available as an advisor for large and important projects. Do you need a guy who can go, “How about just using AI?”

I can be that guy.

Here’s what I did last weekend (playing the guitar in my Nirvana tribute band). We "sold out" the club (it actually was a free show to remember Kurt Cobain who passed 30 years ago) and had more than 100 peeps of all age groups rocking to some noisy Nirvana classics. We had a blast although our singer had a pretty bad cold all week and could barely sing straight (he did a good job considering the circumstances in my opinion)! https://youtu.be/ssn2iE8DIdo

Tomorrow, there is a meetup in Copenhagen. I've been to the meetup once before, and I assume it is reproducible, so tomorrow's meeting will be excellent.

(the only bad thing about the Nix meetup is that it is on meetup dot com, the worst site on the internet)

I see posts from runners who are happy to get outside and run again. They don't mention the cruel people who kept them locked inside the winter months, but please enjoy some of the random pictures I took doing my winter runs.

My Altra Lone Peaks worked great during the winter season; I am considering buying a new pair and a pair of Altra’s road shoes. Not sponsored.

gausby,
@gausby@mastodon.xyz avatar

@hq1 @bomkatt I've only had one pair: the Lone Peak 7 that I currently use and have put around 1200 km into since late October. I saw some reviews that blasted them, so perhaps I got a good pair, and the reviewers got a bad apple.

I will definitely go for another pair of Lone Peaks and I consider Torin as well.

Ask the AI to generate a picture in the style you want. Once you find something you like, ask the AI who it stole it from. Then, find them and commission them to do the work for you.

In related news, I really need an income. I code whatever you need me to code, but I prefer functional languages, and I am the most fluent in Elixir. I can code everything else, but I might need some time to learn a new language, depending on how unfamiliar I am with it.

Is contributing to open-source projects worth it?

Yes. It helps companies that build LLM models for coding assistants improve the quality of their output, which in turn helps programmers who often don't contribute to open-source software in their jobs building proprietary software feed their families—or their substance abuse habits, etc.

In the grand scheme, there is money to be made, but not for you.

    @hq1 I've run nine half marathons (or longer) this year. If I can do it, I am sure everyone else on the planet can do it.

    @hq1 The last couple of half marathons have been 6:20-ish. But I think I can do it quicker if I don't do it every other day.

    I have given Jeff Bezos enough money. I do not like Microsoft or Google (which is an Alphabet Company).
