I wonder if there's a clip documenting all the times Ah Fei suggests murder as the solution. It happens so often, it should be part of a drinking game for this show. Solving crimes? No need. Just torture and/or murder them all. Getting threatened? No worries, just murder the ppl threatening. He's so straightforward, it's very funny

Although the romance is quite light in this compared to a lot of other cdramas (high romance content makes cdramas unwatchable to me), I still get impatient when those parts are on the screen... However! One side is not too bad. I can respect the desire to Have Your Man At All Costs (including taking over the world so he can be trophy husband, or hacking off his limbs and locking him in a dungeon 😂)

I binged from ep 1 to ep 11 of Mysterious Lotus Casebook today so consider this a recommendation from me. It's a wuxia crime/mystery drama. Very good pacing, light on the romance/relationship, more on the mystery/crimes and the main characters are hilarious.

One of them bullshits like he's BORN for it, another is a rich young master turned detective wannabe (ran away from an arranged marriage) who is way too easily lied to, and the third is (very unexpectedly) a muscle-head RIVAL!11 of the grandmaster of bullshit with a shared past (TEN YEARS AGO, THEY FOUGHT and nearly killed each other). Together, they solve crimes! (mostly!)

@Sollenbum I'm definitely enjoying it. Hope that the food pacing continues all the way through, and love the character dynamics. I don't really follow actors (the only one from the main trio I have watched previously is Joseph Zhang in Ultimate Note). Do they dub over their own lines in this drama?

@Sollenbum it's also to make it "easier" for viewers from all over the country to understand it so it's generally overdub with a "standard" accent, iirc

I am very bad with names, so I usually remember actors by their roles in other shows, if I have seen them before, though there are exceptions as I have gone in deep for a few dramas in the past. Nice that Cheng Yi dubbed his own character!

@Sollenbum thank you for sharing the video! He looks so different when out of historical/wuxia robes and hair. I generally prefer subtitles over dubbing the language.

Re: dubbing over accents - I guess it is what it is. I understand the reasoning (e.g., there were people thrown off by Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon because of the mix of accents; and there's such diversity of Chinese languages and accents that some might be really, really hard to understand to others). Kinda like how we think of BBC English but there's a lot more accents in UK

@Sollenbum I think that also happens in China, especially since other accents are used in stereotypical ways when they are used in dramas. This can probably be mitigated if a diversity of accents is used in a more normalized way. Thank you for sharing about the situation in Danish!
