@InternetEh i also love how when they do that they always actually judge the colonizers more leniently!

oh man so somebody fell on hard times -- walked by the pawn shop, there's a rather nice (epiphone) les paul for way too much money in the window next to a really nice marshall (for way too little money). seriously, though, i just bought an amp yesterday for good money off somebody, if i didn't, i'd be very seriously considering storming in there and getting it, it's criminally underpriced unless it's either broken or not what it looks like. #guitar #amp #marshall

@gzt@hulvr.com avatar

it's a Marshall DSL40CR for $399. very good price. unless it's actually a DSL40C or is broken in some way.

Every new pitch I hear for "AI" makes me think wow they must have come up with some interesting new technique, otherwise these claims are obviously false. And then you look into it and it's still just a very complex stochastic model underneath. But the financially motivated folks keep claiming that there's actual factual based use cases for this stuff and I really am not seeing it.

gzt,
@gzt@hulvr.com avatar

@forensicgarlic yeah, it's hard to come up with ACTUAL USE CASES for these general LLM AIs, they're typically going to be buried in the pipeline, and then the actual use cases turn out to be very hard to actually get right especially with these general models, it's not just a plug and play. meanwhile actual decent AI/ML, generally modestly sized models special built for the task, keep chugging along...

The thing about RFK and his :lowly: is clearly just hypochondria. The guy basically just selects the doctor who tells him he has a disease where his skeleton is going to leap out of his mouth and escape down the street rather than the boring ones who don't say that

now I just need a good mandolin. and maybe to replace my 61-key keyboard with a full size piano. and of course a bass amp and electric amp instead of using this headphone amp. and...

one of the selling points, besides filling out my ability to play whatever i want, is how light it is, given how my back has been bothering me lately.

i really need to find a place that will convert my mandolin book into a comb-bound book

why do any of these books come in editions other than plastic comb bound???

gzt,
@gzt@hulvr.com avatar

@davepolaschek Yeah, that's the thing... they used to, do they still? But I should give it a whirl, what's the worst that could happen?

gzt,
@gzt@hulvr.com avatar

@davepolaschek exactly, they've all seemed to be shifting more toward self-service, print-on-demand, etc.

gzt,
@gzt@hulvr.com avatar

@forensicgarlic yeah that's what I'll try (well, FedEx) unless I find a real local business that does this stuff, but print shops in general seem more B2B...

This is an angle I didn’t expect. Instead of Tesla being investigated for misleading consumers by naming its features AutoPilot and Full Self Driving, it’s being investigated by prosecutors for misleading investors.

That actually has more teeth in America given that while consumer protections are week, the US doesn’t play around when you screw investors. Just ask Elizabeth Holmes or Martin Shkreli.

I got my old acoustic professionally set up in the fall and now that it's spring it's time to do it again myself. Action and neck relief seem fine but I have a little buzz on the D and G strings from frets 3-7. I haven't measured the relief but when I test it it clears the frets with a small gap, so it's not bad. I'm trying to figure out what to adjust. Does that sound like a neck relief issue, an action issue, or a fret issue? Or an "acoustics can have a little buzz as a treat" issue.

gzt,
@gzt@hulvr.com avatar

@ambergrey I did change the string but the buzzing was when I fretted a note, so lubricating the nut is irrelevant
