The 'm' key on my newish keyboard has stopped functioning. Now I get to use the clipboard to hold one character for intermittent use while typing! ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Also shift+y, but there's only one clipboard, so ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Haha, trying out advanced workflow for YouTube Shorts using Insta360 studio and DaVinci resolve on my Mac, and either:

  1. Exported video isn't playable on Android and YT app doesn't recognise it as video (but plays fine on Mac)
  2. Uploading from YT studio web app doesn't mark it as a Shorts video
  3. Uploading via DaVinci doesn't mark it as Shorts video

How do people do this? ๐Ÿ‘€

It appears that using Tailscale to send files between devices is broken, the unrecognised files are 0 bytes in size ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ used to work flawlessly before.

I'm learning not to trust software updates because they break functionality more often than fix issues these days. Insta360 and Tailscale have both been a disappointment recently.

Insta360's latest update gets GPS data all wrong.

Made a quick dash to Poombarai as the dark clouds were threatening to take a massive piss, got back just in time ๐Ÿ˜… Now chilling with dogs and cats, waiting for the downpour predicted for today.

Solar panels are having a difficult time grabbing any photons to keep charging the batteries, and it's only 13:30. Shut down excess load because next two days are expected to be overcast too.

What it sounds like to sit under a tin roof as the rain starts. Gives you only a minute to wrap up outdoor activities and get indoors.

Warming: it gets loud

When brain is tired, one of the first things to go offline is the ability to judge one's capacity to perform the task at hand.

I have an effective hack for myself that hasn't failed me in years of solo all-night driving/ #motorcycle riding: if I go over a speed bump without slowing down gradually, it's time to stop at next fuel station or cafe and take a 20 minute nap. No ifs, no buts. I've taken those 20 minute naps merely 15 minutes away from home (at the end of 18hr rides), no regrets.

@Deus is the argument that someone else should do all the work for porting data from Windows to Linux for free because one refuses to spend enough to buy a spare drive for their own critical data? I don't see why anyone would want to solve it even if it was somehow feasible ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

harshad,
@harshad@sharma.io avatar

@Deus and please don't do this to yourself if it isn't a hypothetical we're discussing: get a spare drive for backups, save up, borrow, take emi, whatever it takes. Because I've lost data to this attitude, and losing a decade of your photos (as I did) isn't worth the money saved by not having a second copy.

harshad,
@harshad@sharma.io avatar

@Deus then you're free to continue using whichever OS suits you! Nobody is forcing anyone to use Linux. It's what those who care enough about their own privacy tend to choose and recommend, with the cost and efforts included.

Heh, I would recommend FreeBSD, it's better for long term commitment, but it has an even higher barrier to entry, which is being worked on by the community on their own time and expense, it'll take a while.

harshad,
@harshad@sharma.io avatar

@Deus that's awesome, keep tinkering until you're comfortable to commit. If/when you feel like it, folks will be willing to help figure out last mile issues.

I find arguments of "but it's still not good enough" tiring, and it reeks of entitlement. I've seen brilliant people burn out after decades of work and yet those sitting on the fence keep demanding more with no mention of supporting ones doing the work. That's where I'm coming from.

harshad,
@harshad@sharma.io avatar

@Deus I hope you understand that I'm interested in tackling that argument, this isn't about you or me.

So we ran a smol squirrel bootcamp to get it used to living in the trees later ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

A squirrel playing on a branch of peach tree cut and brought indoors for practice.
