Went into the office on Thursday (usually wfh), have gone to bed early the next two nights cos I’m so shattered plus finding being around family a strain, want to be left on my own to recover. Yup, still not ‘back to normal’.

@tripplehelix oh we have fans but they are just moving hot air around. Usually stick wet washing in front of them but haven’t got any at the moment

After a chat with the learning mentor at school, bought youngest a compression blanket (like a weighted blanket but cooler in summer), he’s tried it out last night and loves it. Says he slept better. Let’s hope we see a difference in his meltdowns over the coming week!

Wow - letter from school detailing teachers for next year - school is going from 1 (maybe 2) to 4 male teachers! One in the infants and 3 in the juniors. This is so good for the kids to see, cos primaries are often female-dominated. There’s been 2 male TAs recently too.

Went to a vegan kebab place in the NQ for lunch today with my colleagues. The chicken replacement: chick’n was really nice! Much better structure than quorn.

Now, is that a brand name or just them saying ‘it’s not actually chicken’ ?

Any idea what it was? Someone reckoned soya.

Eldest (10) is pestering to play - I know nothing about it bar stories about dodgy adults on it so not keen - is it like Minecraft? Can it be locked down for kids? Would you let your kids on it?

@tripplehelix I’ve just seen a Facebook post from two days ago about an adult contacting a kid for their address and one about the HuggyWiggy appearing in the games.Never mind the credit card bills (although I’m pretty sure their devices are locked down for in app purchases)

Apparently his friends are on it, which I’m surprised about, but then I’m the tech parent so maybe i’m more aware than they are.

@tripplehelix so far i’ve been successful in locking down minecraft on the kindle fire. The boys can only connect with each other and they need to be on the same LAN to do so. At least, so far, no incidents. They haven’t received messages and are in their own worlds and don’t use the server games.

@nautilathedrowned2 not happy about that! If they can only meet friends in the world that would be ok but to join games that have unknown others in is def not ok, contactable or not.

We lock minecraft down to our LAN and just the two of them so they are allowed on that.

Kids are 10 & 7, it’s the 10yr old that has peer pressure to join in. I think he’s gonna be rather upset.

Youngest out at Beaver camp so we have treated eldest to his first full on Chinese takeaway (youngest is too fussy yet), and introduced him to ‘the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’ film - which he loved 🙌

@tripplehelix no just the latest one with Martin Freeman, it’s probably not ‘the’ version but I love that one. Gonna give him the books to read, humour was right up his street.
