I was missing a central place to keep track of all the that were made for , so I made one: https://hughrawlinson.github.io/hexpansion-registry/ - if you made an hexpansion, it would be really cool if you could add it there as per the instructions. Even better, if you're selling them (or otherwise making them available going forward), add your link! :)

Important badge fact: the screen is replaceable without soldering!!! If something happens to the screen during your travel, don’t throw away your badge thinking it’s broken - you can buy a replacement screen for ~£12. Let’s avoid e-waste!

In case anyone's unhappy about having to use GitHub to publish apps to the badge app store, fear not - to add an upstream source for your favourite place to store your tildagon apps, you can do so by implementing a RegistrySource. Just two functions that provide a list of apps and the specific app details. Here's the RegistrySource for GitHub: https://github.com/emfcamp/badge-2024-app-store/blob/main/packages/tildagon-app-directory-api/src/registries/sources/github.ts. Feel free to bother me for a code review if you add support for GitLab, SourceHut or whatever!

Idly looking at the difference between the original 4:3 release of MASH and the new widescreen version.

The newer version looks so much better - but crops a fair bit from the top and bottom.

But the original version is missing a bunch of stuff from the sides of the images.

Now wondering if I can correct the scaling of the 16:9 version and overlay it on the 4:3 to get the maximum amount of image 😆

4:3 capture - there's more detail at the top and bottom.
Two men at a bar - the bell to the right is cut off.
Two men at a bar - the bell to the right is more visible as is a hatstand on the left. But the top and bottom of the image is missing.

Someone made me hear that take about "you can't convince anyone that they're wrong by talking to them so therefore instead you should

  1. Stop Talking
  2. Listen
  3. Find common ground
  4. Talk about that
  5. ...
  6. The world is better"

so now my mind is broken and you're getting a thread.

Chinese firm invented a micro nuclear battery using isotope Nickel-63 and diamond semiconductors. The 100-μW coin-sized battery can generate electricity at 3V constantly for over 50 years.

They can operate within a temperature range of -60 to 120 degrees Celsius without any changes in performance and do not experience self-discharge.

I really hate when people compare Covid to AIDS. Firstly, it's hugely inaccurate on many many levels and it's minimizing and appropriating the experiences and suffering of others. Secondly, it usually reveals their complete ignorance of what it was like, both in terms of the activism and also just how people reacted individually and also as community. One thing that people who constantly compare Covid to AIDS very clearly don't understand or know is that people responded to it very differently, both those who thought they weren't at risk and those of us who knew we were. Some people, quite a few actually, did just go "fuck it, I've got one life and I'm going to live it hard and large now." We can talk about the complexities of it all but I am here to tell you that it wasn't some Utopian time when everyone was protecting each other and being cautious, and that lots of people didn't take it seriously back then either. So please stop trying to compare Covid to AIDS for dramatic affect, it's ahistorical and it's no more scientifically accurate than someone saying "Covid is just the flu" either.

@kkarhan @fifilamoura not everyone recovers. Only most people recover. Many people are left with permanent disability, or symptoms that eventually kill them. The other similarity is that they both damage the immune system (to different extents, and with different treatment responses). They’re not the same at all.

And with just one pull request to complete it: Mastodon v3.5 is no longer a supported version.

If you're on a server running it, you really should upgrade to 4.0 and then subsequent versions soon! https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/28574

In a society where people’s ability to pay for their basic needs were not tied to their income, employment probation periods might be reasonable. But hiring people only to fail them on probation, not for anything they did or didn’t do, but because you now think you need someone with a slightly different skill set, is inhumane. Certainly for the fired employee, also for the other employees on fixed term contracts or probation who now have ZERO idea if they will be employed next week.

@quixoticgeek @joenash for years I ran an account on twitter pretending to be Joe's beleaguered cheesemonger after he put some cheddar on a bolognese. It was elaborate. There were real cheeses that were delivered over the years, and some that had postal mishaps!
