Remember how Winamp recently said they’re opening the source code “enabling the entire community to participate in its development”.

Well…

Why would people bother to contribute then? Open source licenses exist for a reason.

@gamingonlinux I saw that announcement and gave it all the consideration due to an announcement that the Apple ][ version of Wolfenstein now has a plugin architecture. Honestly I'm not gonna get wound up about the TOS.

@jjb Musk and Swift have so far done a very poor job of disguising their jet ownership, despite seeming to really, really want to.

It is with a heavy heart that I bring you the news that Twitter finally got around to renewing t dot co for another twelve months. They did this after it expired but was still in the grace period. Oh well, maybe next year.

Dear Lazyweb, I have an NEC video projector and I can't get it to do DHCP, or become pingable with a static IP. Tried several cables; the switch gets a link light on all. Is there something weird about these that I'm missing? The setup menu seems straightforward.

jwz,
@jwz@mastodon.social avatar

@manmachine Gigabit switches, but 2018 device, so that seems unlikely?

jwz,
@jwz@mastodon.social avatar

@Oggie You might be thinking of "arp -a" but that is not showing this device's MAC. And I'm not sure that things show up in that list if they haven't been assigned an IP.

jwz,
@jwz@mastodon.social avatar

@hatter What quick test is that?

jwz,
@jwz@mastodon.social avatar

@hatter I plugged the projector directly into my Airport (DHCP server) and it still doesn't get a lease, and does not become pingable if I give it a static IP.

I gave Wireshark a go, but as with literally every other time I've tried that, I'm just drowning in noise and have learned nothing.

jwz,
@jwz@mastodon.social avatar

@jimmygulp As the only way I can configure the network is via the IR remote, no, the projector was on and projecting at the time.

@IPmonger It says "I am a blue box with 4 ethernet jacks on it".

OMFG. See now, this is the kind of manufacturer-specific threat intelligence it would have been helpful for the lazyweb to have provided me:

@CStamp How convenient then that you can click the link and do exactly that by reading the actual underlying studies.

Me, I'm just going to go ahead and assume that they confirmed what I already believed. Someone should do a study about that.
