I have a new temporar woodworking space.

a thread (to be extended...)

It is anti-kraak - therefore temporar - and not in the best condition. But there's a space. 🎉

Also it is awesome. It is in kind of a park near Rotterdam.

(for those who know the precise location - please kinda keep it for yourself for now...)

The space consists of 2 rooms. The main workspace room and 2 additional rooms.

The workshop room needs some work but is of decent size and has a lot of potential.

But also this area has a lot of breakins and vandalism in the past.

Tools and other things got stolen, things broken.

The door was broken open with a cowfood and clearly this has not seen a lot of overhaul in the last years.

The first focus will therefore be to fix the door and some obvious repairs to be done.

This was the door on first view.

2 reinforcements are missing, there's break in damage and some spots of rot.

This will all have to be fixed before i can put the more expensive tools in here.

When the door is done and this room is a bit more break-in-proof i will focus on building a workbench.

The current workbench is nice but ahem has come to the end of its life.

Its basically a very long English Jointers Workbench also often called a Nicholson after the person writing a description over it. The current length is 3,60m.

The workbench is indirectly mounted to the bench via the tray that's put on top of that.

I will be building a replacement for it. A wand mounted English Jointer's workbench but with integrated tool tray and a bit less wide.

That's the plan so far. I have not started building that yet.

I still discuss with myself over the wood for the workbench.

The new workbench should use normal woodworking vises with the ability to mount those steel-vises over plates in the dog-holes.

I was thinking that first too but if you start to look in detail not really.

I have 2 options:
a) Build a new one and put this one in the shed for historical reasons.

b) Spend a lot of money to fix this bench which has some constructional shortcomings.

And i want an alike bench, not the same.
So: higher, different depth, 2-3 wood vises, Dog holes. Drawers etc etc. The steel vises removable and the tool tray integrated and actually lower than the workspace so i can have a 3x80cm usable workspace.

The agreement that i have is "same style, same general measures, same rough appearance."

I can change the wood and details of the construction.

I added 2 further pics to the workbench-toot with detail views.

Its also not even close to be flat. The tool tray is higher instead of lower than the workspace meaning its again not flat.
The thickness is not very big and i want around 5cm to be able to use holddowns.
There's not really good possibilities to attach somewhat nice vises.

With the tool tray in the rear its at the same time a bit too deep to reach for tools potentially to be stored above and the usable width is too small.

I think the height and usable area of the workspace are rather improtant.

Also the building is under historical protection which restricts some changes.

I have voted for the European Parliament Election by mail.

But - is that also a thing in the Netherlands? It looks for me that dutchies can only vote by mail if they live outside of the country.

@equinox yeah I know. I have decided to vote in Germany. Hence the mail in ballot.

The main reasons is that I don't understand the Dutch political system well enough yet but also that I did not know to vote by mail.

@equinox from what I understand: you can view by mail if you are outside of the country in general. If seem (!!) to me way more complicated buti have not tried it yet.

Most people allow someone else to cast their vote for them.

I also don't know if you can just vote early like you can in DE.

I can send you a letter with the Dutch one. I bought them to send out challenge coins.

The extra price over normal stamps is minimal and the minimum number small enough to just do it. I think I bought 20 or so

Nachrichten verschwinden und tauchen später auf. Ich kriege Benachrichtigungen zu Nachrichten, wenn ich auf den Chat gehe, ist die Nachricht aber weg.
Alles lädt ewig und von den nicht entschlüsselbaren Nachrichten brauchen wir gar nicht erst reden.

Was verwendest du? Also welches OS, Desktop oder Webversion?

Bei mir laeuft alles super - ausser der Linux desktop client version.

Nicht entschluesselbare Nachrichten bin ich los geworden durch sauberes re-signieren aller client keys.
Ein Problem ist dann gerne das da ein Key rumfliegt der nicht mit den anderen kreuzsigniert worden ist.

@Avara das klingt nach Problemen im weirden Settings die im account gespeichert sind und nach Problemen im Keymanagent und das Du da irgendwo einen Key drin hast der nicht richtig kreuzsigniert ist.
Es ist besser fuer jeden client einen neuen key zu erstellen und den ueber kreuz mit allen noch vorhandenen alten keys zu signieren (ich glaube element nennt das verifizieren).

Das ist echt aetzend das wieder loszuwerden. Glaube da geht nur neuer Account.

You can spin the whole "people leave if you ask them to go back to office" thing as "stupid companies" but given how they are currently all trying to juice their stock value with layoffs doing that work for them doesn't sound like them being dumb, it saves on severance and shit.

@drwetter yeah. but i think you have to drive less to get to an acceptable area.

From Hamburg the Wendland seems already blue - 85km ish.
For me its northern France - around 300km.
Yellow is 30km ish for you - duvenstedter brook, 80km for me - Burgh Hammstede but realisticly speaking i'd drive to Wierum - 235km and get at least green.

Also you're more north but i don't think that matters that strong.

Which of the values do i have to keep an eye on?

How far do the forecasts go? As in: Can i have a go-bag in the car and then drive?

@drwetter For an excellent view for you its somewhere Aurdal / Norway (nice landscape btw) and for me somewhere Lochduich in Scotland. Reachable without ferry that has to be pre-booked. In both cases around 1200km.

Doable in 36 hrs.
