Somebody is making a coop version of bandcamp?
I am exited for the possibility of this! I am always looking for better ways of buying music directly from artists and small labels since bandcamp has been getting sold and traded about so much

@mate as a a music consumer, faircamp doesn’t have anything to offer me. That said, at a glance it looks cool for more technical artists who want to give their music away for free

@mate i use bandcamp nearly daily, but i want diversity of options

What i would love is a second platform that allows me to

  • preview albums
  • follow artists &labels w/ release notices
  • find recommendations
  • purchase from artists and labels
  • download my purchases
  • stream my purchases occasionally

The only things bandcamp DOESN’T give me is a rss feed of my follows, not a fan of the email flood. Also major label music, which sadly is out of bandcamps hands

It sucks that there's several artists I'd love to commission but can't because they seem popular enough that the risk of people being disrespectful and making me uncomfortable is too high. Maybe some of them would be ok with not posting the art online if I asked them but I don't think people are usually ok with that.

One part that sucks about moving away from Twitter for most stuff is that algorithmic suggestions actually helped me a lot. I found so many artists I don't think I would have seen otherwise.

Tags are only helpful if people use them and if the thing you want to find even has an established tag people use (and if you can find out what it is).

@paul They were massively impacted by the pandemic, both in a rush for their equipment during the work-from-home renaissance and the parts shortage.
There were months where you couldn't get their equipment outside of the marked up secondhand market at all
