⚠️ mstdn.social will go offline for a few mintures for a quick server upgrade ⚠️

I can't keep it up with the current structure and we need a litle more resources for now

Later I'll look into scaling back down, but the option is there now at least

The whole server migration from past night turned out a little different then I wanted, in total I could only cut about 30-50 euros per month from the main server cost

I did had to upgrade since it does seem like we need the power :blobcatgiggle:

But.... it wasn't for nothing!

Currently we are "future proof" with the latest software, both front and backend. The previous server was literal 4 years old :catblush:

So a little costs cut plus a huge software improvement

The main server type has been changed and a little cheaper then the previous one except..

We now use "volumes" for storing the database and search index(db) so we can basically grow without limit 💪

In total it's a lot more scalable, both in services and diskspace!

The only issue so far I can find is that sometimes stuff is loading a little slow

A reason for that could be that currently the feeds are rebuilding (11K) and the database is indexing

Also there are about 500K backlogged jobs in Sidekiq so the database has a lot to do

Chances are unfortunately mäh. It's Sunday, and the Monday following is an official holiday in most of Europe. Makes it extra hard.

@stux I was curious about a few Mastodon-related things

  1. Did full-text search on mstdn.social stop after February 16? Searching for "a" in posts doesn't reveal anything past then (see screenshot)

  2. Would you be open for emoji suggestions?

  3. If yes to #2, what would be the easiest way to offer a small collection so you'd have to do as little work as possible

If this is too much trouble, I totally get that. The server's still working perfectly and you do a lot of work keeping it that way 🥰

  1. yes! there is a bug somewhere on our current system that prevents new results from being created somehow, one of the reasons we're going to a complte fresh and new version

  2. sure! i guess a dir somewhere with pngs would do so we can add them, name them to the shortcode they need to get
