Okay so internet are strawberries somehow a trans girl thing? I’ve seen a lot of trans girls with strawberry things. What is this about. Am I over analyzing? I just wanna be in on all the queer flagging 👀

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit honestly I’d more immediately associate strawberries with depression due to Celeste’s story

Employment is not an intrinsically good thing. It’s only required because of the problems created by capitalism. We should be celebrating when another job is automated. Don’t be angry at the steady march of progress, be angry that we’re still operating within capitalism when it increasingly does not work in large and obvious ways

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit I think the ideal case scenario would be a fully automated (and net neutral in terms of carbon…) world where no one has to work a day in their life if they don’t need to. If hobbies can become what people do and they don’t need to be paid for them (or have something else that pays for them) to do it, that would be the ideal case.

Stabbed myself directly in my eyeball with mascara so yeah I guess you can say I’m getting pretty good at makeup

timecraft,

@danirabbit why I will never use contacts; I can’t stand my fingers getting that close to my eyes. Especially because of how shaky my hands can get (probably due to the caffeine 😅)…

lol so last night I went to a friend’s house and we played trivia and I was writing answers and she goes, “omg you’re so girly but you still have boy handwriting”. New dysphoria unlocked thanks babe 😭

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit what the hell does “boy handwriting” mean? I think they were saying your handwriting is bad, cause, at least in my experience, guys (including myself, I’m one of the worst offenders >.<) have terrible handwriting. And looking at your handwriting in a later post, no that’s good handwriting…

So again, the fuck does “boy handwriting” mean?!?

They remodeled a Holiday Inn near me. Rent is out of control wtf

Edit: to be clear this is now apartments. Just wanted to clarify about how this isn’t new construction it’s a remodeled hotel

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit not a fan of that layout, and is that $1500/night? For what looks like a twin bed and being crammed in like a sardine? Ridiculous…

Most places I’ve stayed in have had two double beds and a full bath (no kitchen though, though I hesitate to really call that a “kitchen”…) for probably around the same price. Granted, these aren’t in Cali and are in what I’d call medium-sized towns (college towns), so take that as you will.

Doesn’t make that not ridiculous, though

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit previously said it was reasonable, but then I thought about it. If it’s a big city like San Fran, then maybe, though I’d still say take that extra $500 off of there. If it’s a medium-sized town, that’s outrageous, especially or <400sqft. For something that size, honestly $400/month is closer to reasonable, all utils included.

Lmao I was out for a walk and some guy slowed down and reversed his vehicle to cat call me. Why men, why.

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit cat calls in general are terrible, but the guy went into reverse to go back and cat call you?! Bottom tier guy, worst of the worst…

But… based on your reply to someone else here, at least it’s gender affirming..? It’s terrible that misogyny and sexism is a way to feel gender-affirmed, but I guess that’s the terrible patriarchy we live in :/

Microsoft Edge is starting to annoy me big time https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/microsoft-edge-personalized-web-got-it-annoyance.html The Ads aren't just in Edge. The whole Windows has gotten out of control with Ads and trackers everywhere. Microsoft is obsessed with Ad revenue in the Paid operating system.

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@nixCraft soon Windows will need kernel extensions for adblocking. Even Apple’s been slowly increasing their intra-platform ads… Meanwhile, over in Linux land, we’re just like “lol what ads?”

Maybe we’ll be able to convince more people to make the jump as Windows becomes even less of “your operating system” and more “you’re just along for the ride.”

To some degree is impressive that they’re making that more of the case considering that’s always been the case with windows, but I digress

timecraft,

@danirabbit well, I’m glad to see that that asshole didn’t get you down. Definitely report them, block them, etc., all the things people have already said. Transphobia and encouragement of self harm has no place in this community.

And yay for fall weather! (Though I am worried for those in the southern hemisphere. They had a big heat-wave in their winter, and now summer is coming for them 😬)

While we’re waiting for resolution on a couple issues, I started playing with a thing 👀 https://github.com/elementary/quick-settings

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit didn’t see any screenshots, so I started digging through the code a bit to see what all it was (which it seems like a great thing!), and gosh to I miss writing in Vala 😭

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit I wish. Unfortunately, part of my employment requirements (I hesitate to call it a contract, as I don’t want to say something that is legally incorrect) is that any code I write, regardless of when, where, or what on (regarding the computer system) technically belongs to my employer :/

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit (provisions meaning code/IP)

'The above provisions concerning assignment or ownership of Developments apply to Developments created during the "Period of My Employment" by [my employer]. "Period of My Employment" means the entire duration of my employment with [my employer]... also non-working offhours such as weekends and other time spent outside of the office and not performing [my employer]’s work (such as during parental leave, vacations, and sabbaticals)."

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit that’s mostly directly from the paperwork. So I essentially don’t want to work on my own stuff, open or not, as I don’t want the code to be able to be taken by my employer, I don’t want to have to jump through the hoops they set up to work on open source software, and I don’t want to muddy the waters on who owns the code that was written.

And I absolutely hate it and am constantly looking for jobs at open source firms so I can do open source work again

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit and I mean, I can understand it to some degree, not wanting proprietary stuff slipping between the cracks, but it puts so much of a barrier up that makes me not want to work on outside-of-work stuff. And since they technically own any code I write regardless of the circumstances of it being written, if I were to make something they could come in and, in my opinion, steal it, which sucks

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit but yeah if you know of any remote-first, open-source firms looking for junior/mid-level developers (most of my experience now is in C# and Typescript, though I’d love to work in Vala and am willing to learn Rust, since that seems to be the hotness these days), let me know 😉

General reminder to please avoid outing your trans friends. Just because I’m out to you doesn’t mean I feel safe being out to everyone. In general it is safer, physically safer, for me if people don’t know.

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit I feel like some people might have a rough time if a person gets dead-named or improperly pronouned, but ultimately safety should be of a larger importance than correcting. Ultimately, I think there are two things that are a decent way to think about it (and I’m probably wrong on the first one here, but): need-to-know basis and “Ask the person in question before anything.” The second one being the most important, conquering everything else

@dansup @pixelfed not a user of pixelfed (yet…), but thought I’d give my two cents. And I’m sure you and the team thought about this, but I would be worried about getting insta-meta-book in a hissy fit with the similarity of the second icon and instagram’s icon. That said, I think it looks far more modern than the black-background-based one

A proposed default Pixelfed icon. A white circle is in the center of the icon with a vaguely letter P-shaped crossed with a quote bubble symbol in the center, the symbol has a pink-reddish to purple-reddish gradient from lower left to upper right. The rest of the box outside of the white circle has a pink-reddish to purple to pink-orangish gradient from the following corners respectively: lower-left, upper-right, lower-right

Is this a sign of autism? Asking for a friend

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit not sure if a sign of autism (honestly, I’m pretty ignorant on what qualifies as a sign as a more-or-less neurotypical). Overthinking, maybe. Or perhaps exposing a flaw in the questions being asked for lack of specificity. And perhaps I just described some signs (if so that shows the extent of my ignorance lol), but I’d lean towards a lack of specificity and neuro-atypicality of some form. Those of us who are closer to neurotypical don’t really think about this stuff

There is no sustainable altruism under capitalism.

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit it’s unfortunate that profits are considered more important than people. It’s why capitalism is terrible in the long run for everyone, which I think we’re seeing come to fruition with situations like climate change.

@danirabbit “replaces”… I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of that kind of thing in any other OS, desktop or mobile (I’m probably wrong about that, but still). I can actually imagine some great uses for that. Like weather notifications, rather than piling up “rain starting” “rain stopping”, just have that be replaced! Or, perhaps more likely enjoyed, sports notifications (updating scores). That’s actually a really awesome idea!
