@GottaLaff NFL, PSA. Encrypted doesn’t mean 100% protection. It still has to be decrypted to be read (in end-to-end encryption, this usually means on the end-participants sides). So, on their devices, the contents of the message can still be read as plaintext (or, in this case, screenshotted). Encryption does provide a lot of protection, especially from Man-In-The-Middle-type attacks (including the provider, Signal in this case), but there’s still the other party as a “vulnerability.”

FYI, someone just asked me, "Could you please put a CW on those US politics posts?"

I said no sorry,, just mute me.

I don't understand CWing political posts. And that doesn't mean you need to @ me explaining why. I know THEIR reasons, I just disagree with them and won't do it.

I respect CWs for other things, but not politics. Politics is news and people need to be aware of what's happening. It's not gory or violent, it's politics.

Kthxbye.

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@GottaLaff I can understand why some people don’t want to see political stuff (can be very exhausting, especially with how polarizing things are nowadays). But politics drives everything. Ignoring it is how you get presidents like Trump and lose your otherwise taken-for-granted democratic republic. And your (and everyone else’s) entire world. Everything rides on politics, so you have to pay attention to it, lest you lose everything. You’ve got to vote, and you’ve got to make informed votes.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the final question of this toot really comes off as an accusation of evidence tampering? And it comes across as an evidence tampering accusation of evidence during the trial? Or am I misinterpreting the question?

@danirabbit I’ve had a what was called “classic Hawaiian pizza” before (ham and pineapple, mozzarella, tomato sauce). Wasn’t that bad. It’s not something I’d go out of my way to have, but I don’t see why people have such an visceral hatred towards pineapple on pizza

@GottaLaff whew I get nervous every time. He’s so good at slipping out of getting consequences for his actions, I keep getting afraid that he’ll weasel his way out of all of them. I’m glad Judge Merchan is finding these mistrial motions as deniable (don’t want to unconsciously paint the Judge as biased).

Also glad the gag order stays in place. Lifting that would have been extremely dangerous. If he wants to “set the record (not) straight”, he can be put on the stand and under oath.

The Supreme Court appeared poised to reject Donald ’s sweeping claim that he is immune from prosecution on charges of trying to subvert the 2020 election, but in a way that is likely to delay his stalled election-interference trial - WaPo

@GottaLaff NFL (know you’re busy, don’t want to make this something you feel the need to respond to quickly)

Just want to make sure I’m understanding, so we’re assuming the Court will reject Trump’s “lol you can’t prosecute me for anything” BS, but continuing stall the election interference case?

Also am I missing something between the “complete immunity” claim and the election interference case, or is that argument made for that case? Can’t keep track of all the BS claims he’s making…

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@GottaLaff (NFL, just in case 😅) well, hopefully we get a ruling for “no blanket immunity.” As it’s been said many, many times, complete blanket immunity would go completely against the rule of law and really set us on our way towards the destruction of the democratic republic we have and on to the establishment of a fascist dictatorship…

I don’t know how much of elementary OS this affects (and I’m fairly sure there’s not much you all can do, as that’s all upstream), but you might want to take a look at this and make sure none of your important devices are affected. AFAIK, it was only found in liblzma 5.6.0/5.6.1. I checked the package I have installed (elementary OS 7.1), and it was on 5.2.5, so hopefully 7.1 isn’t affected by this..?

It is truly telling how anti-American and anti-people these republicans are to see and hear how little they applaud for things that are blatantly pro-American and pro-people. All of these things the President is saying that are good for the people, and they don’t applaud, they don’t stand. They. Do. Not. Like. The. People.

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

They will not even support a tax raise on the billionaires. They will not support feeding children, keeping people healthy. They will not support ANYTHING that helps the vast majority of Americans. They do NOT support America. If President Biden’s numbers are right, 500 BILLION in 10 years, that help the people IMMENSELY. They DO. NOT. SUPPORT. PRO-AMERICAN. POLICIES.

THEY. DO. NOT . SUPPORT. YOU. They only support the ultra-wealthy and Russia. Not America.

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

Look at how they react to his words. They do not support women. They do not support transgender people. They do not support non-Christians (by their definition). They do not support keeping weapons of war out of civilian hands. They do not support keeping children safe. They do not support keeping ANYONE safe. They DO NOT support the safety of America. They do not support the American people.

Notice how the republicans react to the idea of not stepping away from the idea and hope of America. Equality, freedom, democracy.

They do not like it. They do not like the United States. They do not like equality. They do not like freedom. They do not like democracy.

They. Do. Not. Like. America.

@Haste @danirabbit IANAL (so take everything I’m about to say with less than a grain of salt), but I think retroactively revoking drivers licenses due to alleged “fraud” would be considered unconstitutional under article one, section nine of the US Constitution. Does that section apply to states as well as Congress, I don’t know (and I’m sure we’ll find out…)

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@Haste @danirabbit but that requires the republicans, including the extreme right-wing ones on the Supreme Court, to give a damn about the constitution if Florida tries to do this retroactively. And it would require Florida to, assuming the Supreme Court rules in favor of retroactive revocation being unconstitutional, to actually adhere to the ruling, which is not a given anymore…

Also obligatory “what the motherfucking hell, right-wing numbnuts?!?” here regarding this “law”

Well, I lasted almost 4 years without getting COVID (somehow). This morning I tested positive for the first time. And yeah, can confirm, this sucks.

Please, wear your masks in public or at gatherings. Get the vaccines/boosters. It’s when we get complacent that we get hit the hardest.

It doesn’t take much. I almost always wear my mask when I’m outdoors (granted, I’m a basement dweller, so…), but decided one time “it should be ok, it’s a relatively small gathering.”

Wow. A report by Roger Sollenberger from The Daily Beast reveals that the new Speaker, Mike Johnson, claims not to have ANY bank account or assets in his family worth $5,000. His financial disclosures for years have shown nothing. Is he really living paycheck to paycheck, or is he hiding his true net worth? I mean, the guy is in the top 12 percent of income earners. Something doesn’t smell right here.

timecraft,
@timecraft@mastodon.social avatar

@georgetakei what? Another Republican very possibly hiding their actual worth and/or taking money that will totally not* influence legislation? I can’t believe it!**
