The "VR goggles" market is very small and very specialized because only a very tiny amount of users are willing to accept the downsides of computers strapped to your face.
The downsides--which are inherent and can't be innovated away--are discomfort due to nausea and pressure on the face, eye strain and most of all looking like a complete dork.
@thomasfuchs and yet every time it gets hyped the people on the hype train forget about things like this, or price. I have said for years that my personal price point for a good VR headset is €50. Not because I am mocking anyone but that's what the useability is worth to me.
@thomasfuchs the tech problems of these things “could” be innovated away, but the tech is (as always) years away (not holding my breath - the display tech alone is going to require some revolutionary change). The he human problems (eye strain, nausea) probably require some similar level discovery into how to solve dynamically for organic system differences. Looking like an idiot? That just doesn’t go away 🤣
Maybe in 10 year the tech will be here to make it an affordable kick-ass product but right now it's too big, heavy, janky and expensive. But someone is too eager to seem revolutionary before it's ready.
