PSA from Dr. Etienne, #neurologist and #professor at New York Medical College: "Dr. Etienne says that he recommends everyone eat fruit daily for brain health, but especially those with ongoing brain issues, such as #Parkinson’s disease, #dementia, mild cognitive impairment [#MCI] or a traumatic brain injury."
June is #Alzheimer's and #Brain Health Awareness Month. After I wrote my #memoir with #neurologist Dr. Bruce Miller, I was invited to write a column for the #WSJ -- Five Best Books on Grief. I chose #Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking, #Morrison's Beloved, #Zauner's Crying in H Mart, Macdonald's H is for Hawk, and for good measure a poem, #Ginsberg's Kaddish. Here is my brief reflection on #Zauner. You are not alone in/with your #grief. #EndAlz
It's #Alzheimer's and #Brain Health Awareness Month. This study re: the benefits of healthy eating & exercise isn't claiming #dementia can be reversed, but the data goes under the category of, it can't hurt. For those concerned about #cognitive health (who isn't?), get sleep, if hearing is an issue, get hearing aids, try not to socially isolate (can be hard for us introverts), & get treated for depression. These won't #EndAlz, but may slow it down. Take care of your🧠
#GeorgeConway called out Jennings's lies and got the silent treatment as a result: “Look, I mean, you know, Scott’s lying, and that’s the problem with the Republican Party. It is continually addicted to lying.”
Because June is Alzheimer's and Brain Health Awareness, #JohnsHopkinsUniversityPress has made excerpts from the #memoir, which I wrote w/ #neurologist Dr. Bruce Miller, to honor my father, who died of #Early-Onset #Alzheimer's. I wrote it w/Bruce so he could explain to readers the clinical presentations I saw but didn't understand. Why my father was stricken, I still don't understand, but writing the book w/Bruce was our attempt to help others w/the science & the #grief.
Happy Birthday #AllenGinsberg. I will go to a Supermarket in California (L.A., though, not Berkeley) and also say/read Kaddish. Thank you for these two (and more) magnificent poems.
"This book appealed to my split personality by
satisfying both my scientific and literary brain and
felt like I was reading two books in one." A generous, thoughtful review (pp. 61-63) by #Dr. Emma Durrant, clinical #scientist in #neurophysiology, of my #memoir, written with #UCSF#neurologist Dr. Bruce Miller. Here is a link to the entire volume published in The Journal of the Association of Neurophysiological Scientists.
June is #Alzheimer's and #Brain Health Awareness Month. I wrote a #book, w/the amazing #neurologist#Dr.BruceMiller, to honor my father who died of #EarlyOnset Alzheimer's. Our #memoir has a lot of information about the brain, thanks to #Dr.Miller. My brain broke when my Dad's did, & the sections I wrote are about trying to put it (& my broken heart) back together. We each bring something different to the story of my father's Alzheimer's, & hope telling it helps others.
On the making of a #simulacrum who then becomes #President: "While on location, he [#Trump] could barely put a sentence together regarding how a task would work. Listen now, and he speaks directly to what needs to happen while the camera conveniently cuts away to the contestants, who are listening and nodding. He sounds articulate and concise through some editing sleight of hand."
