Keeping a special eye on my sweet Dolores. She’s heavily pregnant, slow at climbing and having trouble with jumping. The other squirrels sense her vulnerability and are chasing her. In the second picture she sees the horde of ground squirrels coming and is trying to make her getaway with as many nuts as possible 😅 I asked her if I could have just one of her babies but no reply….yet

Dolores is now in panic mode as she sees the ground squirrels advancing from their corner of the yard. Knowing she’s in no condition for a nut skirmish she bends over the nut pile hurriedly cramming what she can into her mouth and wishing she had cheek pouches. I think she managed at least three, poor hungry mamma

Loch Lomond and its surrounding peaks as seen yesterday from the top of Doughnot Hill just above Dumbarton. The Arrochar Alps are on the left (with the Cobbler just visible at the far end), while Ben Lomond is on the right. In the distance between them, are the hills around Crianlariach.

I'm reading Janette Sadik-Khan's "Street Fight" -- her book about her time as transportation head of NYC, building bike lanes, bikeshare, and pedestrian avenues

She prints this "city of the future" model from the 1939 World's Fair

Massive highways circling mammoth buildings; virtually no non-car routes; hilariously few trees

I'd love to read about: How did this become the vision of "the future" back in 1939?

What are some good books on that? Any recommendations, I'm all ears!

@Swalsh@mastodon.social avatar

@clive The_Power_Broker by Robert Caro explains exactly how - in actuality - it started, was executed, and continued (through ~1975). I don't remember if there was mention in there specifically of the Worlds Fair.

Senate Democrats mocked the NRSC’s endorsement in a statement.

is the poster child for Republicans’ candidate quality problem and abysmal recruiting strategy,” said Tommy Garcia, spokesman for DSCC.

“An election loser despised by Republicans, Lake brings massive baggage and disqualifying flaws to the campaign,” Garcia continued. “We’re thrilled with the NRSC’s choice. Lake is the perfect candidate — to lose the race.”

@deborahh In my experience, someone from the organization (campaign, etc.) drops them off, you write them out, and then someone (again, from the campaign or whatever) picks them up! It's SO easy and a handwritten note is way more likely to be read than a phone call answered!!

Yet another reason I am glad that I discovered @coffeegeek and their excellent recommendation of the Oxo goose neck kettle in this photo. The way the lid and the vents are designed allow me to preheat the Cafelat pro filter basket easily and consistently each time and has improved my shots significantly. As pictured, place the basket upside so that the venting steam is captured; don’t forget to wipe dry before putting in the coffee. Hope you all find it helpful:)

Each year, around Christmas and New Year, I quietly set fire to ransomware groups that target hospitals and DDoS groups in my spare time - by doing things like collecting all the info and informing their ISPs.

This year is the first year I haven’t been able to get a single group taken offline. Why? All the ISPs have referred me to CERTs, law enforcement or threat intelligence companies rather than enforcing their terms of service.

There shouldn’t be an industry with incentives to just monitor.

Swalsh,
@Swalsh@mastodon.social avatar

@GossiTheDog Am I wrong in thinking that they do it because they realize they need help with managing the likely retaliation by the same ransomware groups? Also, I do think there is some credence to sharing information with "authorities" to understand the behavior of those ransomware groups so they can link back to the source to eradicate them. But just a theory based on anecdotal evidence at this point.
