Serbia, in the wake of a school shooting, has suspended all weapon permit grants, is lowering the age they can prosecute, and setting up extensive programs to try to prevent this in the future.
Imagine the USA doing literally 1/100th of this while they have almost daily shootings

@jhwgh1968 literally any action from the USA that isn't "we need even more/bigger guns" would seem like a good idea, but unfortunately it seems to me that Americans and American politicians are so preoccupied with freedom, that they completely forget absolute freedom is anarchy; you don't need a government for freedom, freedom is oppression, it's violence, it's murder, it is the OPPOSITE of rights and laws as those are inherently a limit to freedom, and gun freedom SHOULD be limited

This, so much, I 100% prioritize real life and my own mental health- I do not ignore individuals, but I will definitely sometimes purposefully take the time to respond. If you take offense in that, that's not my fault ^^; I promise I mean well 🩵

El nino has never been this heavy, and the average global sea temperature has never been this high. Many countries are already reporting water shortages, and the summer has yet to begin.

This is going to be a heavy summer.

Apparently Pornhub just went dark in Utah because they tried to force them to verify the age of their users without having any way to do so (like, maybe build a proper system that facilitates that demand first?😅)

@itsOasus legit handled worse, wish I took a pic, they literally had meters worth cable mess against the wall, and you sorta had to dig through it to jam new connections in, and pray you didn't just disconnect other stuff by moving the cable mass away. Think the building was decommissioned a few years later so I HOPE it's gone now lmao

Bought some local noms to try!
I wondered what Irn Bru would be like but it turns out to be much sweeter than I imagined, the Scottish seem like real sweet tooths, every store has a variety of cake and sweets (not that I mind) 🍭

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@unlobito I can get baked beans in NL, maybe even the spaghetti bolognese, but not the mac cheese one, so I had to try it hehe

And interesting! I'll try see if I can find other irn brus, this one definitely needed some water hah

The rain isn't an issue for me, the tip of the Netherlands where I usually live right up against the sea, isn't much different in rain and wind, though it is a frw degrees colder here, but also pretty and cozy, lots of variety in nature despite the open areas

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

Speaking of local noms, I tried some Haggis!

And it's actually much better than I imagined, like a richer sort of black sausage with hints of liver and oats, and in this restaurant they combined it with a little half sweet pastry which was amazing, didn't expect to like it!

well that's the last time I buy a HP laptop, elitebook's touchpad is already breaking down (and was terrible to begin with), there's some issue that makes it hit random keys on the keyboard once in a while including the power button (wtf?!), and the CPU is clearly limited by the cooling solution that doesn't even rev up to max when you do a benchmark.

It's a decent laptop for 600, but for the 2.5k it would've cost new I would've returned it to be honest, enterprise laptops can't be THIS bad? 😶

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@antsu haha thats an amazing hack, yea especially the consumer models tend to have really fragile casings and hinges, I love big clunky screws like that to fix a problem, happy to see the mobo didn't hate it hah

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@LightTheUnicorn I mean honestly it's not the worst 13 inch laptop I've had, it's fairly solid (even if clunky because of being aluminium like McBooks), and I've also even had worse touchpads, but it's definitely something I had expected much more of, like this is acceptable in a consumer laptop but not in an enterprise grade laptop where stuff like SLAs SHOULD force a company not to produce crap as it'll get sent back to them if it doesn't perform as it should.
but yea, next laptop no more HP

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@dawnaur elitebooks USED to be enterprise grade, just like the precision line, just more portable, but they did the same as lenovo with the thinkpads, only the X and T series are good, the rest use the same cheap shitty plastic as the yogas, whereas the X and T series are literally magnesium and carbon fiber, higher quality stuff than those alufoil bricks everyone seems to like, magnesium >>>>>> aluminium, much more stiff and lightweight, but yea nobody likes the black rubber coating ig?

anthropy, to random
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

It would be nice if websites and applications had a 'low bandwidth mode'. You don't realize how shitty the internet really performs until you're stuck purely with GPRS/EDGE at a latency of 1-10 seconds, every website that leans on its javascript to be loaded in the first few milliseconds BREAKS, and animated emojis and crap in messengers make said messengers hang or bug out horribly.

Reminder to webdevs: Many people are stuck on this internet entirely and can only browse shit made in early 2000

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@VickForcella Google's ranking system is really complex, it's mostly about what's on the page, the keywords and some accessibility things I think, there used to be a page where you could see if it was being downranked because of issues but i can't find it right now

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@VickForcella yea that's the alexa one, there was also one for google but they might've gotten rid of it because of endless SEO consultants being dipshits with it hah
