One time I ate something so spicy at midnight, I proceeded to do an Asian squat in the middle of the street for ten minutes without saying anything. I was frozen (I think it was five chillies in my ‘bread omelette’)

@skinnylatte From what I’ve read, that kind of squat remains comfortable so long as it’s common behavior from childhood through adulthood. Otherwise people lose the flexibility required.

I bought a pair of cotton/linen pants to wear to MIL’s memorial service because I didn’t have anything appropriate. The first day I wore them after that, the cat snagged them.

Of course.

I could have dug out the tiny latch hook I bought for sweater snags, but I thought I would document how to deal with it with needle and thread.

Some of the photos are a bit blurry, but I think it’s possible to see what’s happening.

@clive I also struggled with that one

@clive I managed to avoid it by reminding myself that it’s not likely there would have been an actual answer when I clicked through.

Just needed to figure out what glue I should use to attach leather to something else, and amazingly I remembered this useful website someone told me about ages ago:

https://thistothat.com

gannet,
@gannet@wandering.shop avatar

And apparently that’s filed in the same part of my brain as this other very useful website for looking up the dimensions of all sort of things, because it came to mind while I was typing the previous post:

https://www.dimensions.com/

Huzzah for sensible URLs (in both cases).

While we’re at it, did you ever want to print out some graph paper? Music paper? Hexagonal graph paper? Dot paper for bullet journaling? And a variety of other things.

All of it customizable, too:

Dear Singer sewing machine people, I have this rusty old Singer buttonholer with only one of the cams (?). (I don’t have a Singer machine.)

Is it worth cleaning it up and trying to find it a home (I’d donate it to a local craft supply thrift shop)?

Or is it straightforward to find these in good condition and therefore people aren’t going to be interested?

Rescued a periodical cicada friend from a parking lot today, and another one from a busy path at Duke Gardens. They are smaller than the annual kind, and also quite beautiful. This one needed prompting to get it to climb onto a tree branch. The second one made me feel like a falconer, as it took off flying from my finger.

I kind of want black and bronze yarn with flecks of red now.

This morning, spouse and I are wearing shorts because it was hot last night. The cat hopped up on the footrest we were both using and stared disapprovingly at our bare legs until I put a blanket on my lap.

Then she stood on my lap and performed the standard routine: glaring at me until I obeyed and gave her a small number of head pats, after which she curled up and went to sleep.

What's the best app for dealing with two accounts on Mastodon? If I have to pay for one, I'd prefer an upfront payment, rather than a subscription.

ETA: this would be for an iphone

gannet,
@gannet@wandering.shop avatar

@artcollisions What operating system?

gannet,
@gannet@wandering.shop avatar

@artcollisions No worries!

I haven’t tried the two accounts feature yet, but Mona is a pay-up-front app for iOS that I like a lot. You can try some features for free.

I do have a second account that I’ve been meaning to add in — is there anything you’d like to know?

I have been vaguely coveting this double sided dobby fabric since someone posted about it, and now I’m seriously pondering it, because it turns out this store has been in my regular stomping grounds since 2011 and I never noticed it? And they also have wool thread that should be perfect for darning?? And various other sewing notions I’ve been wanting. Time to save up for my next birthday, I guess!

@Axiom @MsHearthWitch This conversation made me grin!

Dobby cloth is woven on a dobby loom, which allows special manipulation of the warp threads to make the textured pattern.

ABOUT DAMN TIME. (US) Hospitals must now receive informed patient consent for breast, pelvic, prostate and rectal exams performed by medical students -- particularly on anesthetized patients, the Department of Health and Human Services announced Monday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_48rOgNze9w

gannet,

@epicdemiologist Damn right.

I was talking about this problem with my mother a few years back after reading a news article, and she was extra shocked because she used to know someone who had a part time job having pelvic exams done by med students.

This week’s blog post is actually a complete redo of the chart and instructions for Raven lace, which I first posted back in 2016. A commenter asked me a question that made me realize that I’d left out the part of the instructions that would let people knit the lace to look like my sample. Ooooops!

If you’re stymied by any of my instructions, please let me know. I want to improve things!

Edit to add photo since the preview is broken

This month’s stitch patterns designed from a word suggested on my Patreon are based on the word Cedar (for the birders out there, I’m told it was inspired by Cedar Waxwings).

Knitted sample of Cedar lace in yellow yarn making a complex lacy zigzag with six-petaled flower shapes and arches joining them, alternating with horizontal dashed lines.
