I'm at Parkland College (for a few decades) helping folks navigate developmental courses/placements (but fighting the "hey, 5% of these folks could pass college so we should just get rid of developmental teaching" trends) dreaming of structured paths for building understanding and fluency instead of "I don't have time to teach you, here's a calculator."

The other half is gearing up to revive her YouTube channel. It was started in 2008 with short clips of the plants she lovingly tended in her garden. She was into her “third season” when a bushfire came through in 2011 and much of the garden was engulfed by the flames. The bushfire became her last video uploads.

Now, over a decade later, and Cilla is finally picking up her passion again, and plans to return to Cilla’s Garden. She’s currently doing time lapse videos of the cleanup. The gardens and pathways are all overgrown and she’s been inspired by lawn mowing time lapse videos of people cleaning up overgrown yards.

For gardening, weird plants, or just to follow “The New Adventures of Cilla’s Garden” when she begins uploading again, give Cilla a !

Welp, they accelerated and sprinted past me, so ... I didn't really mind when the lights went on.

Did you know that you can force @mozilla Firefox to display a rectangle around anything that you most recently clicked, helping you e.g. keep track of which item in a long list of downloads or other links you most recently clicked?
It's suuuper-handy and one of the things I have first enabled/increased ever since the Netscape days (long before I became visually impaired).

It is currently enabled by going to the advanced preferences ("about:config" in the address bar) and changing
browser.display.show_focus_rings to "true" by double-clicking that line.

Then you can also change its size to make it more visible by entering
browser.display.focus_ring_width in the advanced preferences search field and as the setting is (probably) not present click to select that it is a "number" type then the plus at the rightmost side and finally enter the number of pixels you want the rectangle to have.

Some web-coders who hate their users having this choice disable the "focus ring" rectangle, probably thinking their webpage is prettier when unusable for some visually impaired people, but you can tell Firefox to ignore that and always display it anyway by doing same as for previous setting but for
browser.display.focus_ring_on_anything and choosing to make it "boolean" type, then making sure it's set "true".

I wanna hear about the best concerts you’ve been to! Some of mine:

  • Ozomatli at The Catalyst - played until curfew, spilled out onto the street and jammed for another hour until the cops came
  • Flaming Lips at Liberty Hall - second set, played the entirety of Dark Side
  • Dar Williams at Liberty - power went out, she sat on the edge of the stage and played three songs by flashlight
  • Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlisle, et al at the Gorge - simply magical

Look. I know I'm cynical, but I'm just not comfortable using my credit card to pledge money to a private company that will then coerce my child to run laps around a gym while calling it a "Fun Run" in order to increase the amount of money said company 'gives' back to my child's school.

Was just browsing bsky’s open feed to see how that works and within 3 clicks I was back on mstdn :blobhappy:

To be honest I find Bsky still so messy, not only the code build up but also the platform itself

My guess is that people find it ‘more easy’ compared to Mastodon for example because you’ll be signing up on their server by default

Not sure if that’s a good thing though
