@jaror this fixes my bug! Yeyyyy

jaror,

Are you one of the lucky ones to find a segfault? :P

mangoiv,
@mangoiv@functional.cafe avatar

@jaror yes very nasty, I reported an issue and three bugs were found investigating it. Romes and Ben did great work doing so. It were multiple issues with pointer tagging.

mangoiv,

@jaror it also exhibited a bug in the byte code interpreter which had been found before

jaror, to haskell in [ANN] GHCup-0.1.20.0 released
jaror avatar

It's great to see windows TUI support so soon after the vty release! Especially since Windows users are not known for their fondness of command lines. I hope this has lowered one barrier to entry to Haskell and will give a more pleasant experience to many Windows users.

Blamemeta, to haskell in [Haskell Foundation] Welcome to our new Executive Director, José

Haskell is still a thing? Who even uses haskell?

jaror,
jaror avatar

It's still going strong. It's a pretty unique language. I use it among many other hobbyists and academics. Some well known companies like GitHub, Meta, and Tesla and of course many smaller companies use it too. Why aren't you using it?

jaror, to haskell in GHC 9.8.1-alpha4 is now available
jaror avatar

This is the first time there is a fourth alpha release. I guess that means the final release will be more stable. I'm looking forward to it!

jaror, to haskell in Community Survey: Removing cabal's nix integration
jaror avatar

As a NixOS user, I'm in favor. If I wanted nix integration, I'd just install the required packages via nix.

jaror, to haskell in [ANN] GHCup-0.1.19.5 release candidate (GHCJS cross support)
jaror avatar

I thought running GHC JS output required nodejs. Does GHCup also manage that or is that an implicit requirement?

maerwald, (edited )

HelloJS is a wrapper that calls nodejs. Also see https://gitlab.haskell.org/ghc/ghc/-/wikis/javascript-backend/building#compiling-hello-world

GHCup doesn't manage system dependencies.

jaror, to haskell in Bytestring-0.11.5.0 and bytestring-0.12.0.0
jaror avatar

Interesting that they consider removing a rewrite rule to be a breaking change.

jaror, to haskell in [RFC] Bumping recommended GHC to 9.4.5 in GHCup
jaror avatar

I was still mainly using 9.2.8 since that is still the default on nixos unstable. But I think 9.4.5 seems stable enough to recommend.

jaror, to haskell in r/Haskell is going dark
jaror avatar

I've always disliked Reddit for being proprietary and centralized (let alone the practical problems like code formatting). The community is great, but the platform is not.
