Oh, well my device was made in 2019 and runs Lineage 21. Apparently that’s not entirely the norm

What kernel are you on? If its a new enough kernel and the device has enough ram you should be able to upgrade or port an upgrade

  • Salix,

Have you checked XDA for an unofficial newer LineageOS ROM or a totally different ROM?

Don’t think I’ll ever stop wishing that Lineage matched Google’s version numbers

RIP 11 year old tablet, hopefully I will still have access to unofficial ROMs that are being updated.

    possiblylinux127,

You probably can get Linux to work on it. However after 10 years of use you may run into hardware issues.

It still runs shockingly well on 18.1 and I use it daily for playing podcasts on YouTube.

did the upgrade reading the inatructions in less than 10 minutes, even installing gapps, that’s a bliss!

    possiblylinux127,

You should ask yourself, do you really need google apps or any other proprietary apps? I’ve moved completely to F-droid and its a good experience

I’ve been without gapps for years and lately I need them for a pair of apps related with healthcare of my family so … no other option

Their contributions to AOSP apps are awesome. Now I hope those reach GrapheneOS too…

I wish Samung Galaxy S23 , S22 series gets added to the supported devices list.

    kzhe,

They’re missing because of Samsung blocking custom ROMs (at least on Snapdragon/US variants). Blame Samsung

    sharmean,

You could use a gsi like I do, S22U here, only issue is SMS reception which Samsung broke with OneUi 6.0

Have been wanting to switch to this but have certain apps that I have to use for work and I’m too ignorant to know if regular apps will work on this OS? Can anyone inform me of whether or not some of these apps would work? They’re not any apps that would be widely known, they are specific to my job but can be found on the Play store. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

In general, the majority of apps should work on a de-googled phone (lineage, graphene, calyx, etc). That said, there are a few apps that require a feature called SafetyNet to ensure the system hasn’t been modified. Apps with this feature will not work and are generally limited to banking/financial type apps.

    moitoi,

They require to pass PlayIntegrity not safetynet. Safetynet is an old thing.

    KingJalopy,

That’s useful information. None of these apps that I use are financial in any way. If anything they’re more like GPS apps that route me to where I need to go, etc. I’ll look more into it before I make the leap. Thank you for answering.

    keyez,

Just my two cents I ran lineageos on my oneplus 6 for the last 3 months before getting a new phone, also running micro GApps and I was able to use my banking app and things like android auto just fine.

    KingJalopy,

    Very good to know thanks

    d3Xt3r,

They don’t have to be financial - many corporate apps will not work on custom ROMs - the most popular ones being the ones by Microsoft - eg Teams, Outlook etc.

Similarly, some games may also not work, such as all the ones by Niantic (Ingress, Pokemon Go etc) and typically many online multiplayer games.

Finally, this will also affect popular streaming media services, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime etc.

There are workarounds for some of these - some with certain compromises - but there’s no guarantee that they’ll continue to work. So before you look into any workarounds (if you use the above three categories of apps), know that it’s a constant game of cat-and-mouse, so it’s not for the faint hearted.

    UprisingVoltage,

You can check here plexus.techlore.tech and ask on the lineageos community forums (lemmy, reddit ecc)

It’s best if you have a test device to try them on though

    KingJalopy,

Cool thanks! Might have a phone I can use to try it out but I’ll ask on the options you have first. Appreciated.

ominouslemon, to lealternative in Ho appena donato a LineageOs
