Two of our cats don't care about catnip at all, while the other two love it.

ShaunaTheDead, to animals in How to stop a dog fight in a secure manner

I worked as a dog walker for about 10 years and I can say that the advice here is quite solid.

One bit of advice that I don't believe was covered in this article is that prevention is the best way to stop a dog fight. Be aware of your dog and the other dogs around them. Be aware of your dog's body language and recognize when they're uncomfortable. Take immediate action to remove them from uncomfortable situations and show them that you're in control of the situation and you're watching out for them. Don't rely on other people to reign in their dogs, if another dog is acting badly and the owner won't address it then you should leave immediately.

In short: Be aware. Recognize discomfort. Take control. Remove yourself and your dog before anything even has a chance to escalate.

The only one of these that really matches reality is 3 and its duplicate, 8. The most laughably false one is 4. Dogs are stressors.

This is just a list of speculated reasons; no actual answers. And it reads like AI generated content.

devdad, to animals in How to manage your dog's anxiety during fireworks

My dog absolutely loathes fireworks. She gets incredibly stressed.

Unfortunately nothing we’ve tried has worked to calm her down. She has several beds, we’ve tried calming sprays you plug into the wall, white noise, the lot.

The funny thing, we tried to desensitise her by playing firework noises on the TV. Even with the TV up full volume, sound bar with full bass, she walks around like nothing is happening - doesn’t care in the slightest.

But the faint sound of a firework (or a wheelie bin moving sometimes) and she’s shit scared.

Lifebandit666, to animals in Can catnip cause problems in cats?

It leads to psychosis and paranoia in them. Did you know that over half of cats in Asylums have tried catnip? We need to get this devil drug out of our felines lives and have them live a full and happy life free from drugs.

/s for the Americans.

This is really sweet! I’m glad the study showed they were able to recognize and differentiate.

Gnugit, to animals in Is my dog recognising my voice on the phone?

We have an automatic pet feeder with webcam, speaker and microphone. We don’t leave our dog with it alone when we go away as he goes to his sitters house or comes with us. It’s convenient while we are around. Every now and then when I’m at work and he is at home alone I would jump on and say hello. He just howls and howls when he hears us calling. It’s the same even if someone else is home with him, as soon as he hears anyone from the family talk to him through it he starts to howl.

A lot of words for… Yes

pudcollar, to animals in How do you know the gender of cats?

I wonder if cats even have a feline equivalent to the human concept of gender. Determining a cat’s sex would be much more straightforward. The article conflates the two terms.

  • Tar_alcaran,

Humans would be so much better off if we just did the same thing to yourselves as we do with cats. Not “Oh, this female cat does a tail-shake as if marking things, which is male behaviour”, but more “Oh, this cat just likes to shake its tail”.
