I’ve never really heard of a hunger strike being used outside of captivity. Their demands are disclosure, divestment, and dropping the charges against students who were non-violently protesting.
They are willing to die for a cause they believe in.
Ok, but, in this case, that’s not likely to accomplish much… which makes it a wasted effort— and wasted life.
In other words: this is a poor choice as a form of protest, as it’s unlikely to accomplish its goals while also potentially being fatal to the participants.
This world needs people willing to live for causes they believe in. 12 people not in captivity inching themselves closer to death is just going to create 12 less people who care.
In general, I think threatening death upon yourself to people who probably already want you dead isn’t an effective tactic outside of certain circumstances like incarceration.
