Oh wow. Really, really loving this. If I had an easy way to port my magazines/block list I'd switch to artemis.camp immediately just to use this daily. Fantastic work!
People on the app currently are using the artemis.camp kbin instance, presumably just because they want to help test and use the app now. That's what I'll be doing.
The API is nearly finished but hasn't been implemented in most instances. Hariette implemented it in the artemis.camp instance to test for use with this app. When it's implement in other instances they will become open to use
given the nature of the fediverse and what we just escaped from, I'm not sure I'd be willing to sacrifice my newfound freedom from that kind of stuff. but I'll try them all.
It's probably identical to the reddit version. The app has ads with a one-time $5 no-ads payment and a donation button for further support. If I had to guess, I'd say the "third-party apps" are stuff like Google Pay and Samsung Pay, but don't quote me on that.
If you think about it all these apps that are popping up out of nowhere for kbin and lemmy and in alpha stage etc.. Boost Rif and all the other ones are prime third-party apps. people that have used them know you probably have to pay $5 or so to unlock its full potentinal. all these newer apps don't have any footing like the big ones do so they are letting you test them out for now but once they get big they will post something like. we have more features but you have to pay $5 all the apps are like this. When i first used apollo and alien blue you had to pay like $6 just to post and everything else was extra. Just saying its only a matter of time. Hopefully it won't come to that but don't be suprised if they do. Just be prepared for anything
Love it already, I really missed apollo when i made the switch to android, and now that kbin and this are a thing I will have a lot less time on my hands, I just made a temp account on artemis.camp while we wait for kbin.social to update, then i will truly be unstoppable
Very good app, I use it frequently to make routes for cycling tours and hiking. I like it because I can use it offline and save battery. Remove poi’s on the map I don’t want and set up restrictions like only use unpaved roads. It brought me to some pretty cool places Google maps would not even know existed. I even used it to track my running for a while. I never used it in a car though. Worth the 30 dollars in the first place.
Was already enjoying the private beta but it stopped updating after v0.1.7. The new 0.2.0 public beta is incredible! But is there anyway we could get it on FDroid? Best to avoid the Play Store when at all possible (even with Aurora Store)
Same - although I feel like there might be some growing pains with artemis.camp. Federation seems to be slow? Idk, I don’t really know how a-lot of this stuff works.
But I love the “CAMP” next to all the usernames for anyone in the artemis.camp instance!
I think this is what I’m seeing too. Some of the magazines I followed on social I couldn’t find here so they hadn’t federated yet but I’m sure that will all resolve soon.
Agreed. I am finding there are more magazines federating every day.
I have also noticed that pinned posts from mods are not always translating over from kbin.social to artemis.camp - if they end up federating, they are not always automatically at the top.
I think things will start to really come together once the full API is released and the full Artemis app is released on iOS and Android. If artemis.camp remains one of the default instances for the app, it could easily become one of the larger instances.
Agreed, especially for new users having a server which they can easily join without much thought is a great way to get past a potential barrier to entry.
Simple. The reason I left reddit wasn’t because of adds, it was because they screwed over 3rd party apps. When my preferred 3rd party app from reddit transitioned to Lemmy, why wouldn’t I continue using it?
