In my OneNites I have a Random Ideas notebook with an Utterly Random section in there. If nothing else I often get a laugh out of it, which is the most important thing.
On one hand I love the idea but then it’s the only streaming platform I’m not a customer of… I’m curious to see a show based on the story. I can’t say it’s in my top 5 of scifi books but it was pleasant enough to read.
Yeah I was already on the edge due to Foundation… For all mankind not so much despite an important peer pressure : the trailers just didn’t move me. The others I haven’t heard about till now :)
That sucks. One of my favorite authors. His book Redliners is a really different take on military sci fi, and gives a unique look at the interaction between the military and the society they protect.
It’d sure be nice if people were allowed to experience and enjoy a thing without having a business built around outrage engagement giving its unsolicited opinion.
To me, most of Ken Liu’s writing follows that same pattern. I push myself to get through the first part because the reward is a poetical and moving second part.
I'm rewatching it right now and enjoying it. The characters are well-written, the principals were cast well, a lot of recognizable "B" and "C" actors make cameos, I honestly think some of the CGI still works (fight me).
Right now it looks like we’ll have a couple of decades of Road Warrior (any of the Mad Max series) for a couple of decades, with declining care use and rising cannibalism. And then its up to the roaches, rats and coyotes.
We’re going to have to learn some serious Star Trek stuff if we’re going to survive the climate crisis and plastic crisis.
