Meta's latest strategy to offer its AI models for free commercial use turns up the heat on OpenAI and Google and their closed-source AI business model.
Meta has done a lot of good for open-source models, however I still can't really see what their end-game is... To overthrow and become the next ChatGPT and monopolize the internet? Or is it just to enhance their "Metaverse" to uprise the rise of AR (which is what Google/Alphabet is trying to push)? It's a good contribution nevertheless, but I feel dubious about the purpose of their goal.
exciting. honestly I'm becoming more fond of meta after their rebrand. their focus on vr, ai, and they're gonna do a fediverse thing too yeah? interesting to see where it goes.
