What's the most random camera you have?

This is mine: https://elekm.net/rollei/qz/start.htm

greyleader77,

@skinnylatte

Hansa Canon from my Grandpa (Canon’s first production model from 1936. It’s a literal museum piece. Haven't been brave enough to try it yet...)

@skinnylatte i don’t know if it counts as random, but my mom’s old minolta xd-5

@glasspusher @exchgr This is a great camera

@skinnylatte @glasspusher i love it, and i don’t get a chance to use it as much as i’d like to

@exchgr @skinnylatte My workhorse camera for about 18 years was an XD-11. Loved how that camera fit in my hand.

@glasspusher @skinnylatte oo yeah, that one’s slightly nicer! as far as I know, the only difference is the amount of info displayed in the viewfinder, but otherwise they’re pretty much the same

@exchgr @skinnylatte I think you're right. the xd-11 had the shutter speed and f stop displayed in the viewfinder. From that front view of your XD-5, it doesn't.

I had heard the XDs were the first SLRs to have shutter, aperture and programmed priority mode, but they were quickly upstaged by the Canon A-1. Never been a Canon person, but then again, I'm not a brand loyalist anymore. If Nikon doesn't get their shit together I might switch again

@glasspusher @skinnylatte ah yeah, i used to be a nikon fan and a sony hater for no particular reason. now i’m a sony user who’s disappointed with the current state of nikon. no loyalty except to quality

@exchgr @skinnylatte I like my Nikons thus far, but holy hell Nikon could use some schooling when it comes to good UI/UX. The struggle for good UI/UX never ends.

I've got a good friend who's a professional with Sonys. I should ask if I can play around with some of his stuff and see how I like it.

Gone are the days when I was in high school with one camera, 3 lenses and one flash, and I had the whole experience memorized. Now I'm older, don't have as much time to waste on learning the minutiae, and there's more minutiae than ever. I can do it but I know there'd be a smoother way.

@glasspusher @skinnylatte sony is known for its bad software UX, although it’s gotten better in recent years. imo it’s always been fine once you set it up with shortcuts that conform to your workflow, but that does take some work and wading through endless menus with vague descriptions

@skinnylatte This one is pretty random. A thrift store find. I love how it looks, and it has a pleasant weight. Too bad the winding mechanism is broken.

A vintage Paxette IA electromatic camera, a lump of steel with some faux leather, selenium cells and a mirrored viewfinder in which the photographer (me) is reflected.

@Stratski omg i have a braun paxette as well, but another model!

synec,

@skinnylatte Okay, I don't exactly have it since I left it at my parents' house decades ago, but I made a pinhole camera out of a Quaker Oats can in my youth.

@synec @skinnylatte We really need a 3x3 alignment chart for cameras. Somewhere on there is "contact print made by shadow of objects on colored paper left in a window for a couple years"

quantsini,

@skinnylatte I have this Kodak Autographic jr no. 1a that I originally got as a prop for a roaring 20s themed wedding. I found someone who made 3d printed adapters to allow it to shoot 120mm film (from 116 film, which isn't made anymore) and the shutter still worked and I was able to take some great black and white photos at the wedding!
