Russia’s Medvedev threatens to nuke US, UK, Germany, Ukraine if Russia loses occupied territories

"Attempts to restore Russia's 1991 borders will lead only to one thing - a global war with Western countries with the use of our entire strategic (nuclear) arsenal against Kyiv, Berlin, London, and Washington. And against all other beautiful historic places that have long been included in the flight targets of our nuclear triad," Medvedev said in a reference to the triad of intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles, and strategic bombers with nuclear weapons.

So literally they’re threatening to lob nukes if people don’t stop not recognizing their attempt to just grab territory from weaker neighbors.

I don’t think Russia wants that precedent in the air with China looking so hungrily at Siberia

    The take is actually grounded in history.

    The US has notoriously bad spy craft when it comes to Russia. We spent literal decades believing they were an equal power, spending vast sums on defense to make sure we didn't fall behind. The government funded all sorts of "studies" but anyone who questioned the narrative got blackballed, and the people who kept getting that work just parroted back what the generals wanted to hear.

    And then the iron curtain fell and the Berlin wall came down, and we saw the state of their military...and it was abysmal.

    We are seeing the same thing with their basic war capabilities right now. Ukraine has been able to hold them off, more or less, for two years using mostly NATO cast off equipment and sunflower seeds.

    There's a pretty good book that goes over a lot of this by Anne Jacobsen called The Pentagon's Brain.

    I don’t think those inspections were that thorough or comprehensive.

    The inspections are to verify locations of warheads and delivery systems. They are not function tests. They do not verify fuel integrity, structural integrity, nav hardware functionality or any other critical function. They don’t even check that all the components exist in the delivery system.

    These parts (fuel, computer components, chassis components) are all valuable on the international black market. The scalpers who have, for decades, been the main sources for these commodities have been the poorly paid people who maintain these systems.

    I’m curious: did Zelensky comment on Navalny’s death? I didn’t specifically look for it, but I expected - and didn’t see - a big passionate speech from Zelensky to the Russian people encouraging them to honor Navalny’s memory, to rise against tyranny, etc…

    Yeah sure. First spend twenty years in making sure your nukes will be working again, then we’ll talk. Your army so far has been a lot of talk and even much more sad results. All you have is poor people from areas you don’t like that you can throw in the meat grinder. You barely can afford to protect your own country, less so eating near in Ukraine, and fighting the entire world?

    The war in the Ukraine has shown what you are, a paper tiger paralyzed by frauds and corruption. Russia sends out a single missile (the rest will refuse to launch because likely the tanks will be filled with water or something) and the entirety of what once was Russia will be a smoking crater.

    In other words: shut the fuck up, nobody is taking you seriously anymore.

    It just gets crazier and crazier. Now Dmitry Medvedev, the unhinged factotum of Vladimir Putin, says Alaska belongs to Russia — or else.

    Or else what? Or else war. Not with Ukraine. Not with Estonia. But with the United States.

    Here’s Medvedev’s lunatic statement in its entirety: “According to a State Department representative, Russia is not getting back Alaska, which was sold to the United States in the 19th century. This is it, then. And we’ve been waiting for it to be returned any day. Now war is unavoidable.”

    Russia’s former president, Dmitry Medvedev, writes that ‘if necessary, we are ready to help with the independence referendum, and we will recognize the People’s Republic of Texas if there is one.’

    In the course of about two weeks, we’ve got him proposing Russia helping set up Texas as an independent country, Russia definitely starting a nuclear war with the US because Alaska isn’t becoming a new Russian oblast, and stating that efforts to return Russia to her 1991 borders, which have been going on for some time, will result in nuclear war with the US, UK, Germany, Ukraine, and some unspecified other set of countries.

    I’d say that he’s got a pretty considerable set of foreign policy goals to get through there.
