Feeling a bit better about the academic job market now that I've applied for some postdocs and fellowships. Two down, five or six more to go, with the hope that more opportunities pop up. Only two of those are for Croatia, though, so wish me luck! 🤞🏻
What was your experience getting your first job after your #PhD?
@ninokadic@academicchatter@academicsunite i was already a contract lecturer before completing my PhD. It wasn’t stable & everyone said I needed a post-doc. I did that, went to industry again before getting my current tt job. It’s a hustle!!! Now as I put my tenure file together, I can see why I’m tired

@ninokadic@academicchatter@academicsunite mine was domestic and I stumbled across it rather accidentally, spent there two years and moved on to something else (in academia), still in good contact with the professor despite 10y have passed since my departure
@ninokadic@academicchatter@academicsunite this is the start of my 30th year teaching and researching at a small college (ABD first two years). Much has changed, some remains the same. The most memorable moments are the results of having taken opportunities I never would have imagined taking. (PhD 1996)
