@vingtroiseize The only painfully uncool design was the A2000 and its derivatives.

The generic metal box was spat out by ’s German division after its recent (profitable but soul-less) success with Commodore’s first (but not Amiga) compatibles. And boy, did the A2000 show its heritage.

Give me a svelte A500, A3000, or A1200, not that chonky boi.

The A2000 is just an A500 in big-boy-pants.

It's the only one I don't own, and nor do I want one.

My favourite is the A3000.

@jaruzel @vingtroiseize In 1987, both and were trying to reposition themselves as Serious Computer Companies for Serious Business People who were No Fun.

The exterior designs of the 2000 and the II were the respective results. Giant rectangular slabs built around the all-important expansion slots.

@mjgardner @vingtroiseize The A4000 case had the same generic PC box heritage. Dave Haynie, CBM Engineer, aludes to it here: https://www.quora.com/What-was-the-history-of-the-Amiga-4000-What-is-it-that-should-have-shipped-compared-to-what-actually-shipped

@owainski @vingtroiseize Yah, the A1200 and A4000 were simultaneously too little and too much too late to save Commodore from the newly-installed mismanagement.

And the weird structural defect of having to solicit orders from a dozen country- or region-specific independent marketing & sales company subsidiaries didn’t help.

Even the Mac looked more attractive both inside and out in the early 1990s.
