How to find out why an app is not compatible?

A banking app on my Android 11 phone started saying after June it would stop working.

After that I uninstalled to try and fix the issue but since then says the app is not compatible, even though the bank's website says it works with v5 and above.

I've since looked at two other banking apps and Google Play says neither is compatible with my 1 phone.

There's no way to find out why or if a different phone will work.

jkeyne,

@happyborg you could try using https://github.com/whyorean/AuroraStore to “side load” it. AuroraStore can let you browse the google play store while pretending that you’re using a different device than you’re actually using. Then you could try to download your banking app and hope that it installs anyways… not sure of good way of finding out before buying a phone if it would be compatible though…

@jkeyne thanks, will take a look.

@jkeyne that's a useful tip. It hasn't worked but I've learned a bit.

I can download but the install fails saying it can't find compatible ABIs. But my phone reports an MT6739 processor, which is Armv8 and I can see the app apk's in include v8a.

The apps claim to be targeting SDK 33 (Android v13) which means they should work with my v11 (SDK 30).

Several apps are like this, I suspect all updated to SDK33 because recent Play deadline but now won't work on this v11 phone 🤷‍♂️

@jkeyne mmm, the only apps affected are for Banking type companies so it could be they are all produced by the same people. I'm guessing most of my other apps have also updated to SDK 33 so that's not the cause. 🤔

@jkeyne well I've had success with one app by spoofing different devices by trial and error. It's still not possible to figure out why some aren't happy as the symptoms were the same until I found a device that fooled just the one app. 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, thank you very much for the suggestion!

I think Google is the problem
