Tedesche,

You can’t baby-proof the internet. People need to take individual responsibility to ensure they’re not being duped by liars. We shouldn’t be pleading with big tech companies—which are ultimately indifferent to everything but profits—to shelter us from charlatans.

lolcatnip,

They won’t, and we will all suffer the consequences. Heading serious people vote based on lies they read online isn’t an individual problem with an individual solution.

Travalanche,

2024 is going to fucking suck.

Whirlybird,

Twitter isn’t “surrendering to disinformation”, it’s just not censoring political opinions anymore. Community notes are IMO one of the best things about twitter, and how “disinformation” should be handled on every platform. Let people voice their opinions and share articles, but if they’re factually wrong have them corrected right next to them, not deleted and banned.

Censorship of dissenting opinions and voices is never the answer, and social media companies should not be interfering in elections by favouring views of one party and censoring the other.
