WTF?

'The format of <string> is nnn, nnn, nnn, nnn. The range of the first section of "nnn" is from 0 to 223 (except 127), and the ranges of the other three sections of
"nnn" are from 0 to 255.'

@penguin42 UTF-8 representing 2 to 4 Unicode codepoints but none from outside the BMP (i.e., none with a 4-byte representation in UTF-8)?

@edavies Nah, it was just IP addresses, but as @mansr points out, it's probably just avoiding multicast.

@penguin42 @edavies The 127 exclusion was an obvious clue.

@mansr @penguin42 For 127 I was thinking of del, often excluded, but then, yes, you'd probably want to exclude most of the C0 controls as well.

@penguin42 IP address excluding localhost and multicast.

@mansr Is the whole chunk defined for multicast? I've only seen a few of them ever used.

@penguin42 I don't remember exactly which range is multicast. Maybe the limit was chosen with a bit of simplification.
