I barely understand what gaussian splatting is, but it seems like it's going to be a big deal. How cool would it be to take a completely photorealistic 3D capture of places you've been, with 'room tone' audio, to use as an Environment in visionOS?
How transformative could it be to Apple Maps' 3D or street view?
@stroughtonsmith Gaussian splatting and Vision Pro are two great tastes that taste great together. That’s why I released a minimal app (and OSS library) just to play with what it’s like to view them in the Vision Pro. Still working on making the performance and gestures acceptable, but even with shortcomings you can tell there’s a whole lot of potential!
@stroughtonsmith Those environments they’ve shown… I think I’d want to buy more.
Machu Picchu, Red Square, Hagia Sophia, Stone Henge, tourist places all over the world that would cost a ton to visit. Both landmarks and just beautiful landscapes. The Serengeti with a star filled sky? Why not!
