The creator economy is, to be frank, a dead end, a gilded cage that places a ceiling on what you can achieve.

What's the alternative?

Is there an alternative?

I like to talk about the DIY economy. The indie economy.

@Daojoan @baldur https://artisans.coop is an attempt to help with this. Won’t work for all creators obviously, focused more on craftspeople.

@Daojoan

It's why I set up a shop to sell my books directly through my website for the first time ever this year.

Yes, I'm still relying on platforms to do all that, but I have a deep sense that most online book stores will become unreliable. Amazon's search algos are degrading, as is Google.

I've been sending out my newsletter religiously once a month for years now. Learning how to grow a fan base is hard - but that's the next step in my author career.

Baby steps - but I am taking them.

@Daojoan I do agree but also with search engines, especially Google, mostly useless now people finding new followers is not easy unless you capture them off socials and people have been completely trained into never leaving the main platforms they use.

Also when it comes to adult content, yes it is the only way to share it without being removed BUT it is still almost impossible to monetise it
