I just really hope Apple is preparing a metric hectare of reassurances if (big if!) they’re about to announce a deep partnership with OpenAI.
Like, reassurances about the environmental impact (all that work down the drain?), about the training data sources, about general ethics, about the cringy move-fast-and-break-things startup-bro vibes that they will then inherit onto their brand, etc…
@cabel@vmstan “Ideal” me wants to believe the humongous environmental impact of AI instantly-disqualifies it for integration with Apple’s products.
“Reality” me knows Tim Cook is likely feeling the pressure to do “ai stuff” and envrionment be damned. But, you know, stop including stickers in boxes and charger bricks since that saves the company money.
@cabel I don't really like it, but I'm happy that Apple hasn't been pushy about its assistants in the past. Siri? I just say no to it and I never hear from it again. At least the risk of Apple ramming it down your throat, Copilot style, is not too high...I hope
@kwramm@cabel every time i install an os update from Apple it asks me again to enable Hey Siri even though i’ve made my position on that setting very clear to them that no means no
