Does anyone have a raw image (DD, sector image) of an "Iomega Tools" Zip disk? I'm curious how they implemented the dual Mac/PC format.

Beware: don't put it in a PC or Mac with the Iomega Tools software installed. If it sees a Tools disk, it'll delete the other partition and 'reclaim' it as free space. Guess how I ruined mine!
Imaging on Linux with "dd" should be safe.
An unmodified disk will report as being read-only.

@philpem If no one has one, a tools disk (unsure what's on it), and a USB-SCSI adapter. I'll see if I can find a power supply and HD50-DB25 adapter in my box of parts.

@rlonstein fingers crossed! and thanks in advance!

@philpem Hmm, I do have such a disk, still in it's bag, not sure whether it's ever been placed in a machine, but I doubt it. Hmm. I also have some drives, but not currently in machines...

@philpem I'll see if I can find mine, but there's a good chance it might have already had something like that done since it was second hand with my other disks.

@philpem I'd imagine they did it though with just a partition table on there (most disks are partition tableless, but nothing stops it from having one) with a FAT16 and a HFS partition on there, windows would only see the HFS one and they might just show the FAT16 for mac.

@ChartreuseK It's probably something like that, bur Macs of the time didn't use PC-style partition tables, so it'd be some weird kind of hybrid HFS/FAT thing, I think?

@philpem Well found one Tools disk but it had already been converted to a PC one at some point, guess I'll keep looking to see if I have another. Was just showing as a single partition of the full disk size of FAT16.

@ChartreuseK Did it have a hidden file called "PARTISHN.MAC" in the root directory?
