What's your backup strategy?
I see many posts asking about what other lemmings are hosting, but I'm curious about your backups....

I'm trying to stand up a Lemmy instance, and for some reason I'm just not getting it. I've got a fair bit of experience in Linux and Docker. NPM is new to me, but doesn't seem difficult....
So I've discovered that after a while, it get a bit messy to keep track of all the passwords, API keys, which services are connected to which databases and such. Do you use anything to organise all the info?...
I have played around with yunohost and other similar tools. I know how to open ports on router, configure port forwarding. I am also interested on hosting my own stuff for experiments, but I also have a VPN enabled for privacy reasons on my router at all times. If you haven't guessed already, I am very reserved on revealing my...
I have an Oracle Always Free VPS. 4 ARM Ampere A1 vCPUs, 24GB RAM, 200GB storage. Will this be a good fit as a server for a Lemmy instance? Are there any issues with hosting Lemmy on aarch64?

Digg was my favorite website of all time, what people today can't experience is just how good the community was. I think that was due to the reputation system they used. A sufficiently advanced reputation system would fix a lot of problems with social media, with less censorship....
Anyone with experience using NixOS to create a Lemmy instance, please share any caveats and troubleshooting tips you have.
All this new excitement with Lemmy and federation has got me thinking that maybe I should learn to run my own instance. What always comes up though is how email is the orginal federated technology....
For those self-hosting a lemmy instance, what hardware are you using? I am currently using a small Hetzner VPS. It has 2 vCPU, 2GB RAM and 40GB SSD storage. My instance is currently just in testing with me as the only user, but I plan to use it for close friends or family that may want to try this out, but might not want to sign...
Curious if anyone is working on the codebase for Lemmy. I'm sure we all see a few places where it could use some love....
I set up a self-hosted instance yesterday, so far it runs fine. I can subscribe from there to communities hosted on other instances, I can comment from my instance and the comments show up on other instances....
A simple question to this community, what are you self-hosting? It's probably fun to hear from each-other what services we are running....
TL;DR: old guy wants logs and more security in docker settings. Doesn’t want to deal with the modern world....
Correct me if I'm wrong. I read ActivityPub standards and dug a little into lemmy sources to understand how federation works. And I'm a bit disappointed. Every server just has a cache and the ability to fetch something from another known server. So if you start your own instance, there is no profit for the whole network until...
Hey lemmings,...
I put this together at the weekend and it got some interest on the selfhosting subreddit in its final day :)...

I recently spun up my own lemmy instance and was wondering if I had to manually add other lemmy instances to the ‘Allowed Instances’ admin field, or if they are added automatically when someone searches for a lemmy instance?
I've seen a couple of instances around asking if it's possible to self host Lemmy fronted by Traefik, figured I can share my test setup with the community. This configuration is still in testing phase but seems to work in a federated configuration....
Hello everyone! Mods here 😊...
Hi everyone,...
Over the next week or so I'm sure a lot of people are going to try spinning up Lemmy instances - I've certainly been looking at it....
