Do I know anyone on here affected by the Open Collective Foundation dissolution? Code for Philly uses OCF as our fiscal sponsor and we are looking to connect with other affected #philadelphia orgs as we work to find a new fiscal sponsor setup.
The #OpenCollective Foundation, a fiscal host for charitable projects, will dissolve. This will be highly disruptive to more than 600 groups that depend on this foundation.
@PresGas Not the #OpenCollective platform or the Open Source Collective 501(c)(6) business league that hosts many #FLOSS groups. Only the OCF 501(c)(3) public charity entity is winding down.
The blog title is unfortunately misleading and, while a loss to the #nonprofit world, is also causing a lot of unnecessary panic today.

This brings me to the question, is #OpenCollective regional restricted (US only)?

@realn2s@OSCo It's been 7 years since I wrote about #OpenCollective. I haven't used it myself, but it seems to have grown healthily. At https://opencollective.com/ you'll see that it's not restricted to the U.S.; there are currently 15,000 groups around the world who raised & managed $35M last year.

These people help 140 instances (including mine) operate by providing managed hosting to people who don't have the technical backing (or in my case, spoons) to run an instance by themselves.
They've just moved to using OpenCollective for their funding to be upfront about their finances.
Their one sysadmin is looking to take a permanent break and they're aiming to hire people to fill the role; if you know of people with those talents, and who are looking for some work - please get in touch with them at hello@fedi.monster

It's been really liberating being able to have my own little corner on the internet and not having to worry & faff with all the associated costs that come with running a Mastodon server.

I am now supporting @postmarketOS with 2,50€ each month. It's not much, but every little bit helps. I do believe what they do is groundbreaking work and immensely important to the future of open source software, and reducung electronic waste in the infamous mobile sector. I also just like it.
