@maskapony I can believe their process, but the principle of avoiding the appearance of impropriety stands. Shan and Vivian could have followed every rule in the book and it wouldn't have saved them a single bit of negative perception.

If anything, I think this just exemplifies that our ministers are no longer in touch with the experience of middle- and low-class Singaporeans. They will never have to budget a third or even half their income for mortgage or rent. They will never worry about noisy neighbours or dubious tenants. They need not concern themselves with missing the bus to take the train to walk to work. Money doesn't buy happiness - but it eases a lot of headaches the average citizen must live with.

I sure hope this headache cannot be relieved by their money nor power.
