If luck is on our side, there will be a moon landing attempt on February 22. If Intuitive Machines succeeds, this will be the first U.S. spacecraft to soft land on the moon since the Apollo missions.

@skrishna Except I would argue we shouldn't be privatizing space exploration! I guess it's still exciting in some sense that a private company has finally managed to catch up to 1960's NASA 🙃
@skrishna Sure, it's part of the Artemis program, but isn't the achievement that it's a private company that's doing this? And, again, it's not just this, right? There's SpaceX and Blue Origin and however many others, a lot of them probably getting contracts from NASA. But that's still a form of privatization! Fundamentally, the government used to go to space. Now, we subcontract out to companies. IMO, that's a bad trend.
@chiraag I think there's a lot more nuance to this discussion than you're allowing, and that there are definite advantages (as well as huge disadvantages and red flags) to the rise of commercial spaceflight.
